Year Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Stick Man.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children worked hard to write letters to Santa. They used their sound mats to find the initial sounds in words. They also tried to sound out and write what presents they would like from Santa. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc).

Our Learning

This week we have been reading 'Is it nearly Christmas yet?' We have made our Christmas cards and have all posted them this week. We spoke about the stamps and the post-box and how our letters will go from the postman to our homes, some of the children were really good at remembering their door numbers and street names!

The children have shown some lovely collaborative work recently. They are working well as part of a team and are starting to listen to each others ideas. We have had some lovely models creating using the wooden blocks and the children have enjoyed using the small world objects to create stories based on these.

The children have enjoyed using the cars to follow the chalk tracks in our tuff tray. They have had to use their concentration and fine motor skills to do this.
They have enjoyed jumping and scooting along numbers written in chalk outside and counting along.

The children have been using their name cards to recognise their names and have been practicing holding their pens or pencils using a tripod grip.

We have been busy singing our Christmas songs ready for Monday. We hope to see lots of parents and carers there to see our wonderful singing!
