Nursery had a fantastic week filled with excitement and festive fun! We began the week with some real Christmas magic, including special visits to Mr and Mrs Claus. The children were incredibly brave as they went to meet them, confidently engaging in conversation and sharing their thoughts. Each child was delighted to receive a Christmas gift, making the experience truly memorable and full of festive cheer.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck into the provision this week, exploring snow-coloured rice and a variety of winter-themed resources. They also worked collaboratively to create a large chalk mural on black paper, using their creativity and fine motor skills to produce some wonderful winter artwork.

Construction has been a key focus this week, with the children independently exploring building activities both indoors and outdoors. They worked hard together as a team to create a castle and a train using wooden blocks, showing excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills. The train was a huge success and inspired lots of imaginative play, with the children enthusiastically driving it for a long time afterwards, calling out phrases such as, “Choo choo!”, “Where shall we go?” and “I’m steering the wheel!”

With the sun shining, gardening was a must! The children thoroughly enjoyed independently filling their watering cans and taking care of the nursery plant beds. They were very excited to spot a growing strawberry, sparking lots of curiosity and conversation. The children have also loved building with the Mega Bloks this week. A kind parent generously gifted a Mega Bloks table, which has been extremely popular and well used. Thank you very much for your thoughtful donation!

Lastly, creating outdoor climbing circuits has been a big hit this week. There were lots of shouts of delight as the children challenged themselves physically, proudly exclaiming, “I can climb higher now!”, “Miss, look at me!” and “Watch me do it!”.

Mr and Mrs Potato Head have also received lots of love and attention, with the children demonstrating their ability to share the pieces, take turns, and get creative with a range of different styles and ideas. In addition, the children have thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of the Christmas cutters, particularly when decorating their trees with jewels and feathers, resulting in some wonderfully imaginative festive creations.

The children had lots of festive fun in the malleable area as they used playdough to create their very own Christmas trees. First, they chose twigs they had collected during outdoor play in the garden, carefully pushing them into the dough to form a tree shape. The children then explored a selection of colourful beads, selecting their favourites to decorate their trees and add a sparkle of Christmas cheer.

This hands-on activity sparked plenty of imagination and creativity, with each tree turning out wonderfully unique. As the children rolled, pressed, and shaped the playdough, they were developing their fine motor skills and hand strength, while also practising concentration and decision-making. Using natural materials from the garden helped the children make connections with the world around them, turning a simple craft activity into a meaningful and playful learning experience that they were very proud to share.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break filled with joy, rest, and special moments together. We can’t wait to welcome the children back in the new year and are looking forward to meeting some new faces as new children join our nursery family. We’re excited for all the fun, learning, and adventures the year ahead will bring!

Festive Wishes,

The Nursery Team
