Lastly, creating outdoor climbing circuits has been a big hit this week. There were lots of shouts of delight as the children challenged themselves physically, proudly exclaiming, “I can climb higher now!”, “Miss, look at me!” and “Watch me do it!”.
Mr and Mrs Potato Head have also received lots of love and attention, with the children demonstrating their ability to share the pieces, take turns, and get creative with a range of different styles and ideas. In addition, the children have thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of the Christmas cutters, particularly when decorating their trees with jewels and feathers, resulting in some wonderfully imaginative festive creations.
The children had lots of festive fun in the malleable area as they used playdough to create their very own Christmas trees. First, they chose twigs they had collected during outdoor play in the garden, carefully pushing them into the dough to form a tree shape. The children then explored a selection of colourful beads, selecting their favourites to decorate their trees and add a sparkle of Christmas cheer.
This hands-on activity sparked plenty of imagination and creativity, with each tree turning out wonderfully unique. As the children rolled, pressed, and shaped the playdough, they were developing their fine motor skills and hand strength, while also practising concentration and decision-making. Using natural materials from the garden helped the children make connections with the world around them, turning a simple craft activity into a meaningful and playful learning experience that they were very proud to share.
