Nursery Certificates- 6.2.26

A big well done to Lina!
This week, Lina received our E for Excellence Award for her wonderful engagement in the farm experience.
Lina showed such kindness and gentle care with the animals, choosing to spend her time looking after them and making them feel safe and happy. We loved watching Lina’s lovely interactions and the big smiles she shared with the animals!

Congratulations to Mylie!
Mylie has been awarded the E for Excellence Certificate for the wonderful way she helps to look after our nursery. She is a super tidier, always putting away the things she has been playing with and helping to tidy up for others too. Mylie takes great care of all our resources and helps keep our nursery looking lovely.
Thank you, Mylie!

Nursery Learning WC2/2/26

What a week in nursery!

The children had a fantastic experience with Wellgate Farm this week, where they were able to hold, engage with, and stroke animals such as goats, sheep, guinea pigs, and rabbits. They were taught to stroke the animals from the back of their heads down, and all of the nursery children made Broadford very proud by using gentle hands and quiet voices when meeting the animals.

At our art table, the children enjoyed using cuttings of pink paper to create a pig, as our books this week were about farm animals: The Greedy Goat and Rosie’s Walk. The children loved practising their cutting and sticking skills as they created beautiful pictures.

At our playdough table, the children have enjoyed creating their own sheep and moving them around our farm background. This activity inspired lots of conversation about sheep, especially as the children were able to link their play to real-life experiences after meeting sheep during our visit to Wellgate Farm.

On our writing table, the children enjoyed writing shopping lists, carefully thinking about the items they wanted to buy. They then used these lists to gather shopping items into trolleys from our role-play area, taking them around the nursery as they shopped. This activity encouraged early writing skills, imaginative play, and communication as the children shared ideas and worked together.

Some of our amazing rock stars in aid of nspcc. Thank you for all your £1 donations and the fantastic effort from all our families. The children all looked amazing!

Many thanks,

The Nursery Team

Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus was The Ugly Duckling & Chinese New Year.

Here is what we have been up to:The children have taken part in Fairytale Day, looked at a range of different eggs in a science experiment, sorted healthy and unhealthy foods, made cherry blossom tree art, celebrated NSPCC number day and taken part in a dragon dance around school.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In Literacy, we have been writing words about eggs. They used their sound knowledge to write words such as big, white, brown and spotty. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children, bring their reading folder on their reading day and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Watch this video for set  1 sound practise - Set 1 sounds.

In Maths this week the children have been looking at odd and even numbers. Odd and even numbers are taught by exploring pairing and sharing. Even numbers (2,4,6,8,10) can be split into two equal groups or paired up perfectly. Odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9) cannot be shared equally, always leaving one "odd one out".

Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
