Nursery Newsletter 20.4.26

Notes to Parents

Can you believe we’re finally seeing some sunshine? We are so hopeful that the warmer weather is officially on its way!

On those lovely sunnier days, we want to make sure the children stay comfortable while they’re playing outside. Could you please give them a good coating of suncream before they head into school and tuck a named sun hat into their bag? It helps us get them outside safely and into the fresh air as quickly as possible. Fingers crossed for a beautiful, bright week ahead!

What a brilliant day we’ve had! Our Mini Marathon was a huge success, and we are just so proud of how every single child got involved. Whether they were out on the grass or in the hall, the energy across the whole school was absolutely infectious.

Our pre-schoolers were bursting with excitement to head out onto the "big field" together. It was such a lovely sight to see the Reception children and our Pre-schoolers tackling the trail as a team. Some of them were sprinting like little lightning bolts while others were happy to take a steady stroll, but everyone gave it their all for a full 26 minutes of exercise.

Meanwhile, our younger ones were busy turning the hall into their very own activity arena! They spent their 26 minutes tackling all sorts of fun challenges, from jumping and finding clever ways to travel across the room to practicing their aiming and throwing skills. They finished off the session with a final big run that left everyone exhausted but very happy.

It’s been a day full of smiles, movement, and great sportsmanship. We have a feeling there might be some very sleepy little marathon runners heading home to you tonight!

Our story this week, Mad About Minibeasts, has inspired lots of excitement and curiosity in nursery! The children have loved exploring the tiny world of minibeasts and learning all about how they move. We had great fun wriggling like worms, crawling like caterpillars, and buzzing around like busy bees. Through movement and play, the children developed their coordination and imagination while bringing the story to life in a joyful, active way.

In our maths area, the children have been using bug catchers and mini beasts to go on their own little hunts. They enjoyed collecting the minibeasts and counting how many they found, developing their number skills through hands-on play. This activity encouraged careful counting, comparing amounts, and lots of mathematical language as the children shared their discoveries with each other.

In our tuff tray, we created a mini habitat using soil and woodchips, where hidden minibeasts were waiting to be discovered. The children loved digging and exploring, using magnifying glasses to zoom in and take a closer look at the insects. This sparked lots of curiosity and conversation as they carefully examined what they found and talked about the different features of each minibeast.

Outside, the children enjoyed lots of collaborative play, working together, sharing ideas, and building friendships. They had great fun climbing, developing their strength and confidence, as well as dancing freely and expressing themselves through movement. It was wonderful to see their energy, teamwork, and creativity shine in the outdoor environment.

Inside, the children have been creating beautiful butterfly collages, carefully spreading glue and selecting colourful materials to decorate their designs. This activity supported their fine motor skills and creativity, as well as encouraging them to take their time and feel proud of their finished artwork.

In the malleable area, many of the children chose to create their own minibeasts using dough. They had great fun shaping their creations and carefully adding legs and other features, showing wonderful imagination and creativity. This activity also supported their fine motor skills and encouraged them to talk about what they were making.
