Reception Learning W.C - 28.9.26

Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. This term our topic is Marvellous Me. Our focus book was Sharing A Shell.

Here is what we have been up to: We have been learning all about friendship and what it means to be a good friend, we made friendship bracelets to give to a class mate, we sequenced the story and designed our own shell in drawing club.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children have been learning the sounds e, l, h, r, and j.  Please continue to read with your children and work on these sounds with them everyday. Practise Set 1 Sounds here.

In Maths this week the children have been working hard to sort objects by colour, shape or size. They also found different ways to sort themselves such as into girls and boys, by height, or hair colour. In addition to this, they compared amounts using the language more or less.

🌈 Our Learning Next Week 🌈

Next week, we will be exploring the story Elmer by David McKee 🐘🌈. We will be talking about, kindness, being different and celebrating what makes us special.

In phonics, we will be learning the sounds v, y, w, z and x. At home, you could go on a little sound hunt and see what objects you can find beginning with these sounds!

In maths, we will be learning about subitising — this means recognising how many objects there are without having to count them one by one. For example, seeing 🍎🍎🍎 and knowing there are 3 straight away! Try using dice, fingers or small groups of objects and ask, “How many can you see?”

Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home! 💛

Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!

A Little Reminder 👕

Please ensure that your child has a spare set of clothes in school, kept in a drawstring bag.

This week, the children have been busy exploring their creativity through painting and colour mixing. They have enjoyed experimenting with different colours, discovering what happens when they mix them together, and watching new colours appear.

The children have also been practising an important independence skill, putting on their own aprons before getting started. It has been lovely to see them becoming more confident as they learn to prepare themselves for creative activities.

The children have also been enjoying lots of fun outdoor water play. They have been rolling balls down the gutter and watching carefully as they travel into the water tank.

This activity has encouraged the children to explore movement, speed and cause and effect as they experimented with how the balls moved. They also enjoyed taking turns and repeating the activity, building their confidence and developing their coordination along the way.

The children have been busy in the construction area, using skewers and wheels to create their own cards. They have been exploring how different materials can be joined together and experimenting with how the wheels move.

It has been wonderful to see their imagination and problem-solving skills developing as they designed, built and adapted their creations. They have also been strengthening their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they carefully handled the materials.

The children have been enjoying lots of sensory fun outdoors, mixing foam in the tuff tray. They explored the different textures, scooped and stirred the foam, and enjoyed watching it change as they mixed it together.

This activity encouraged the children to use their senses, develop their fine motor skills and explore different ways of mixing and combining materials. Most importantly, they had lots of fun getting messy and experimenting together!

The children have been practising jumping safely from the equipment in the garden. They have been developing their balance, coordination and gross motor skills while learning how to jump, land safely and move with confidence.

It has been lovely to see the children encouraging one another and building their confidence as they challenge themselves through physical play. They have been learning to assess their movements, listen to safety guidance and enjoy being active outdoors.
