Afternoon Nursery Challenge

Sophia has been very creative  at home with her family.  She has made a 5 Little Speckled Frogs game  with a fishing rod to catch the frogs on the log and place them into the water.  Sophia told us that the fishing rod has a magnet on the end to stick to the  clip things (paper clips).  Fantastic!  Sophia has been very busy because not only did she make one game but she also helped to make a prop for the 5 Little Speckled Frogs song.  She also pointed and was able to name the 4 stages of the frog's life cycle.  "I painted that with my nanny and grandad".

We are amazed!

Not only can most of our children put on their own coats, many children are working hard at doing their own zips and buttons up. This is a demonstration of fantastic independence skills, many children have already made it to the board of fame! Please help your child practise this at home.

Police detectives in Reception

This week our topic of Superheroes has moved on to look at real life superheroes and how they help us. We have been busy saving people from fires,  cats stuck up trees, learning about doctors and solving mysteries as police people. 

During lunchtime a cookie went missing from Apple class and some crumbs were left behind. The children quickly stepped up as policemen to investigate and help solve the mystery. They practiced asking questions, and many children recorded their findings and suspicions. There were lots of different opinions over who had taken the cookie, high up on the suspect list were The Cookie Moster and Mr Drakes. Poor Mrs Light walked through the reception classrooms and was bombarded by intense questioning to find out her whereabouts at lunchtime. Lucky for Mrs light she had an alibi, when Moyin said "I saw Mrs Light in the nursery, it wasn't her!". 

Fat Thursday in Apple Class!

Today in Apple class we learnt about a new celebration, Fat Thursday. Fat Thursday is the last Thursday before Lent and is celebrated by Nela's family. Traditionally it is dedicated to eating and people meet up to eat large quantities of sweets, cakes and other meals not usually eaten during Lent. In Poland the most popular dish to eat on Fat Thursday is Pączki which is a donut like pastry. Nela made some Pączki with her family and brought some in to share with her friends in Apple Class. Thank you for sharing your families traditions Nela. They were delicious!

Technology Treasure Hunt!

The children have been putting their ICT skills to use this week, as they used the QR Scanner App on the iPad to go on a treasure hunt. The children first had to locate the QR codes (those black and white squares) hidden around Apple class. They then successfully opened the app and scanned the code to reveal the hidden picture. Malachi and Frankie Watson exclaimed "it's a pig!" as they discovered their first picture. The children worked well as a team, taking turns to use the iPad. They then recorded what the picture was onto their clipboard next to the corresponding number, using their 'Fred Fingers' to help them. It was a fun way to work on our knowledge and understanding of the world skills and also gave the children another engaging opportunity to practice their writing.
