Sophia The Super star

Sophie has completed every single learning challenge this year. A great deal of hard work has gone in to her projects. Well done Sophia (and your Mummy) your resourcefulness has and resilience has been noted. Sophia talked about Humpty Dumpty and how she met him when she was on holiday "I sat next to Humpty on the wall".

Nursery Newsletter 04.07.16

Term: Summer 2 Date 04.07.16

This week we will be reading stories of the children’s choice and practising for our Graduation and Sports Day .

We will be recapping all of our previously taught phonemes.

Personal, Social and Emotional

Shows confidence in asking adults for help.
Demonstrates friendly behaviour, initiating conversations and forming good relationships with peers and familiar adults.
Enjoys responsibility of carrying out small tasks.

Communication and Language

Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall.
Questions why things happen and gives explanations.
Builds up vocabulary that reflects the breadth of their experiences.

Literacy

Recognises rhythm in spoken words.
Describes main story settings, events and principal characters.
Beginning to be aware of the way stories are structured.

Physical Development:

Walks downstairs, two feet to each step while carrying a small object.
Holds pencil near point between first two fingers and thumb and uses it with good control.

Uses one-handed tools and equipment, e.g. makes snips in paper with child scissors

Mathematics

Uses some language of quantities, such as 'more' and 'a lot'.
Sometimes matches numeral and quantity correctly.
Uses positional language.

Understanding of the World

Knows that information can be retrieved from computers
Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and operating some ICT equipment.
Shows interest in the lives of people who are familiar to them.

Expressive Arts and Design

Sings a few familiar songs.
Understands that they can use lines to enclose a space, and then begin to use these shapes to represent objects.
Engages in imaginative role-play based on own first-hand experiences.

Nursery Learning Challenge Summer 1

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning, this is in line with the rest of the school. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class however the table below details some ideas for the learning challenge.

A big thank you to all of the parents who offered their help/helped on the school trip. You were fantastic and the children were very well behaved. It was a lovely trip. Each child received an annual pass we will give them out this week.

Peter and the Beanstalk

Back in the Spring Term the children in Reception planted bean seeds and began to care for them before taking the small pots home in the Easter Holidays. Peter has clearly been caring for the beanstalk well as we received this photo of his giant beanstalk this week.

Peter was very proud of his beanstalk and exclaimed: "I had to water it and it had sun and it went up and up and up!"

Well done Peter and family. What a fantastic way to experience the life cycle of plants first hand. Just keep an eye out for any giants at the top!

Reception Newsletter 4.7.16

Term: Summer 2 Date 20.6.16

Our story of the week will be 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.' The children will be; retelling the story using actions, using bulbs and wires to create their own circuit and writing recipes for The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, amongst other activities.

On Monday the children will be watching a School Theatre production of the Little Princess and on Thursday we have our own Punch and Judy show on the large volleyball court outside! Remember the Stay and Play picnic is on Tuesday, please bring a lunch for your child if you wish to stay.

Your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests; however, the skills remain the same):

Personal, Social and Emotional:

Encouraging children to work in small groups to discuss thinking and plan tasks together.

Communication and Language:

Extending vocabulary, especially by grouping and naming, exploring the meaning and sounds of new words.
Discussing memories and events over our Reception Year in preparation for the Reception Graduation next week.

Physical Development

Children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.
Learning how to correctly use hurdles.
Fine manipulative skills set up daily to improve children’s pencil control.

Literacy

We will be continuing with our daily Read, Write Inc. groups.
Comparing fiction and non-fiction books about the seaside.

Mathematics

Arranging number cards to create number sentences and recording how many true calculations they can make using these numbers.
Revising one more and one less.
Counting on and back in 10's to 100.

Understanding of the World

Talking about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another.
Using bulbs and wires to creating a working electrical circuit.

Expressive Arts and Design

Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.
Painting pictures of our favourite moments in Reception.

Due to of the volume of drink money being collected, distributed and organising the change for drinks is beginning to take away valuable teaching time. We kindly request that if you would like your child to purchase a drink (30p each) that they bring in the correct money daily in a labelled purse, envelope or wallet, which can be kept in your child's tray.

Nursery Barleylands Trip

Th children took part in a fantastic trip today. The parent helpers were great and the children were very well behaved. As you are all aware we have been exploring traditional tales this term. This week we have been reading the Gingerbread Man. The children have considered the structure and features of the story and they have also had an opportunity to act the story out, joining in with the repeated refrains. At Barleylands the children made gingerbread men and also got an opportunity to meet the various animals from the narrative. Furthermore they had an opportunity to feed those animals and have a ride on a tractor. There were also some snakes, a tractor museum and a bouncy castle, what an amazing day. The children learnt so much today...how to bake, feed animals, baby animal names and much much more!
