Dear Parents,

Each week we will provide you with a newsletter.  The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you up to date with any relevant news in Reception.  It will include a list of intended learning objectives, an overview of activities, the learning challenge (which we will not commence until the second part of the Autumn term), notices and the stories and songs that we will be focussing on.

The learning objectives will be listed under these seven headings:

Personal, Social and Emotional

Literacy

 

Physical Development:

 

Mathematics 

 

Understanding of the World

 

Expressive Arts and Design

 

 

Please be aware that we also follow the children’s interests, so many other objectives are covered when opportunities arise.

This newsletter will be made available in the outdoor area, in a blue tray labelled ‘Weekly Newsletter’, however we appreciate that many of you wish to go 'paperless’ so a copy will also be posted on our EYFS blog and facebook page at the beginning of each week.

Please ensure your child has a set of spare clothes (to be left in school), in a named carrier bag on their  peg.

Please ensure your child has a pair of named  wellington boots on their peg, to remain in school.

Your child will not need a PE kit for the start of the year. They will be taking part in PE lessons in small groups with our sports coach Mr Portway but they will not be changing to start with.

Tips for Transition to Nursery

A parent’s guide to transition to Nursery

We are very excited to welcome our new Broadford pupils to Nursery tomorrow. Here are some tips for supporting your child with the transition to Nursery.

Successful transitions

Changes are by their nature potentially stressful. It is important that children experience successful transitions in early childhood as these act as templates for their future ways of dealing with change.

1. Stay Calm

Very young children are very quick to pick up on anxieties or stress shown by their parents. While you might try to put on a cheery voice or smile, children are able to read body language and pick up on voice tones very effectively.

If children sense that you are anxious, their stress levels will increase. A successful transition for your child relies therefore on you feeling comfortable too. If you are feeling anxious, think about why this might be and talk to one of our EYFS practitioners about your concerns.

2. Develop goodbye routines and try to keep them brief

If you do not have a goodbye routine, it is worth developing one. If you leave your child with a partner, family member or friend even for a few minutes, create a little goodbye routine. Something as simple as ‘three kisses and bye bye’ can be immensely helpful. Goodbye routines are useful as they are positive ways of leaving. When your child arrives at nursery, make the drop-off loving but quick. Find a member of staff, give your child a hug and a kiss, then leave.

3. Have a smooth start to the day

Many children will cope better with transition if they have had a smooth start to their day at home. This is because their background stress levels on entry to the setting are lower than children who have had a bumpy start to their day. While many families struggle to get out of the door on time packed, fed and dressed, it is worth aiming to be super-organised for the days around transition in order to give your child a better start. Make sure also to get your child to bed so that they have sufficient sleep. Tired children do not make for great transitions.

4. Talk about Nursery positively

Talk about Nursery as much as you can at home. Tell your child that they will be safe, that the children and staff will like them, and that they will have great fun whilst they are there.

5. Explain to your child that you will be back

You know you will pick your child up at home time, but that may not be obvious to them. Explain this in a way they can understand such as ‘I’ll be back for lunch time or I’ll be back after story time.”

Congratulations!!

Congratulation Nursery children and parents, you have all successfully completed the year! We have had a lovely end to the year with our Graduations, Sports days and Go-Bonkers. The children were thrilled with Go-bonkers and their only complaint was that it had to come to an end! What a lovely treat, to round off the year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind wishes, cards and presents.  We look forward to seeing some of you in September and best wishes to all of those moving on to other schools. 

Sports Day Reminder

Reception children can come to school wearing PE Kit/Shorts and T-Shirts tomorrow. They do not need to bring a change of clothes. 

Sports Day starts at 9.15am. 

Reception Newsletter 11.7.16

As this is our last newsletter of the year, the Reception team would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the parents/carers for your support.  The children look forward to sharing their best memories of Reception at the Graduation Ceremony on Thursday at 2pm. From capturing the evil peas for Supertato, to our recent rather wet beach trip the children and staff have made some fantastic memories. We are very proud of the progress the children have made both academically and socially and are confident they have the skills they need to achieve well in Year 1.

The children have all received their End of Year reports today. If after reading the report you have questions you would like to speak to your child's teacher about, you are welcome to attend the parent's evening on Monday after school. If you need an appointment after 5.30pm please send a message to the school facebook page. 

Next week we will continue to revise the phonic sounds we have been focusing on and will focus on consolidating number bonds and recording addition in our Maths lessons. Apart from this we have a very busy and exciting last week planned:

Monday 9.15am - Sports Day

Wednesday - Go Bonkers Bouncy Castle Event

Thursday - Reception Graduation - 2.10pm.

Friday - End of year awards and last day of term.

We look forward to welcoming parents/carers on Monday and Thursday. The children can come to school in PE kit/shorts and T-shirts on Monday and do not need to change back into their uniform.

Nursery Newsletter 11.07.16

This will be our final Nursery Newsletter, I’m sure you will agree that this year has passed incredibly fast. 

 A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who have been so supportive over the past year, we hope you will agree we have all worked well together to ensure your children had a successful transition into school life. They will all be dearly missed.

Please advise a member of staff if you wish to attend and we will arrange a time.  Please note you do not have to attend, unless you have something you wish to discuss regarding your child’s report.

 

Sports Day - All Parents and Carers welcome

Morning Children 10.30am

Afternoon Children 2.30pm

(Drop your child off at their normal time and return for the event)

The children can wear their normal uniform with trainers or a white t shirt and shorts with trainers.

Nursery Summer Closure –

All Children are invited to a final session Wednesday 13th July 8.30 - 11.30am

Nursery will not be open in the afternoon

Don’t forget to take home your boots and spare clothes. 

 

Also Srinika’s Frozen Wellington boots have disappeared! If you have taken them home in error please return them as she is very upset.

EYFS Stay & Play Picnic

Thank you to all of the parents, carers and family members who attended the picnic. We are always pleased to see you all. We have been hosted this end of year picnic for a number of years now.  Many parents have requested such events. Furthermore this is a great opportunity for the adults and children to build bonds with other families and meet the teachers in an informal environment.  Oh and of course....it's a chance for everyone to have some fun!
