Dear Parents,

This week is Pirate week, we will be reading various pirate texts and carrying out related activities.  We also have ‘Go Bonkers’ visiting the school tomorrow (Tuesday 10th July), all of the children will have the opportunity to use the inflatables and any children with 100% attendance will get an extra bonus session.

Our Learning Objectives for this week are:-

Personal, Social and Emotional:

ELG: They say when they do and don’t need help.

ELG: They show sensitivity to others needs and feelings, and form positive relationships with adults and other children.

ELG: Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others.

                      

Communication and Language:

ELG: They use past, present and future formas accurately when talking about events, that have happened or are going to happen in the future.

ELG: Children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners needs.

ELG: They answer how and why questions about their experiences and respond to  stories or events.

Physical Development:

ELG: They manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs successfully, including dressing and going to the toilet independently.

ELG: Children show good control and coordination in large and small movements.

ELG: They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Literacy:

ELG: Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

ELG: They also write some irregular common words.

ELG: They write some simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

Mathematics:
ELG: Chn use everyday language to discuss position
ELG: They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

ELG: They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

Expressive Art and Design:

ELG: Children use what they have learnt about media in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes.

ELG: Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes.

ELG: They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

Understanding the World:

ELG: They know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, among families, communities and traditions.

ELG: They know that other children don't always enjoy the same things, and are sensitive to this.

ELG: Children talk about past and present events in their own lives and in the lives of family members.

Important Notices:

Walking down the ramp:

It is that time of year when  we start to encourage the children to develop their independence skills even further and walk down the ramp with their peers.  If you feel you child is ready, please encourage them to do so. Parents and carers can stand at the top of the ramp and watch them walk safely in their classrooms. This usually helps with the transition in Year 1.

            

        Messages.

Learning Challenge

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class. Please find some ideas in the table below.  Please ensure the completed challenge is handed in to your child’s teacher by Monday 16th July, so that the certificates can be prepared.

Nursery Rhyme: A Sailor went to sea

Learn it off by heart. Draw a picture to illustrate the rhyme. Find out about the rhyme

Draw a portrait of the person. Find out facts about the person. Watch the person in action.

Listen to the piece of music Create some movements to the music Draw an illustration to represent their feelings Able to name the piece of music when they hear it

Nursery Sports Morning

Nursery children enjoyed taking part in the sports morning on Thursday. They showed how well they have developed their balance and co-ordination over the year with some super quoit balancing, excellent throwing skills and fast running! Thank you to parents/carers who were able to watch, we hope you enjoyed the morning.

Reception build a paddling pool!

It has been a hot few weeks at school and today Reception decided to build a paddling pool! Before we started we talked about the materials we would need and how we were going to construct the sides. There was a lot of thought over how we could stop the water escaping! 

Time to build! The child showed fantastic reciprocity skills as they collaborated to build the pool. The was much discussion over how to lay the bricks and how high to build the sides. Once the children had added the tarpaulin they realised it was not going to stay in place. The children quickly put their heads together to secure the tarpaulin with bricks. Although the children had lots of fun we were sure to discuss the safety aspects of being around water and the children are all aware that to stay safe there must be an adult present if they are going to construct a pool. 

A lovely activity in the warm weather, also provided an incredible learning opportunity. With many areas of learning being covered including communication and language, physical development and PSED. Lucas and Zoe even went on to build their own mini paddling pool.

Paradise Wildlife Park

The Reception children had a fantastic experience at the Park.  They saw an incredible range of creatures including meerkats, lions and penguins.  As well as the impressive collection of animals there was a new section called "Dinosaur World", I am sure you can imagine how popular this was!?

There were also multiple play areas and the children of course all had a great time eating their picnic lunches.  On our return to school, the children have been writing recounts about their trips.  The only down side to the event was that we didn't want to come home and we could have spent much longer there.

Reception Newsletter - 02.07.18

Dear Parents,

Sports day will be taking place tomorrow (Tuesday 3rd July) at 1.30pm.  Please send your child to school wearing sports wear and suitable shoes.

Also this Wednesday (4th July) Aspen Class will be delivering their sharing assembly at 9.05am.

The children had a fantastic time on Thursday at Paradise Wildlife Park.  They were all really well behaved and we wanted to say a big thank you to all of the parent helpers too. Look out for the blog with photos from the day.

We will be reading the text ‘Journey’ and carrying out related tasks.

Healthy Eating in Reception

Healthy Eating week in Reception was great fun for all of the children.  Of course we want our children to enjoy a varied range of healthy foods.  The children got an opportunity to try a range of different fruits and vegetables each day. During these food tasting sessions the children were encouraged to talk about their likes and dislikes and describe the food using all of their senses. Most of the children made an effort to at least test the foods and were proud of themselves for being adventurous.

At the end of each day the children took part in some kind of alternative exercise or relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation.  These activities were enjoyable and the children asked to do more of them!

Nursery Newsletter 2.7.2018

Dear Parent/Carer,

Summer Term is always very busy with lots of exciting events planned for the children. Here are the key dates for the half term:

Sports Day - Thursday 5th of July - 9.30 - 10.30am This will include AM and PM children.

Go Bonkers - 10th July (This children will have the chance to enjoy a field full of bouncy castles)

Nursery Graduation: Wednesday 18th July - 9.30am Morning children  1.45pm Afternoon children 
Last day of term: Thursday 19th July 

Please help the children to enjoy the sun safely this week. Remember to bring hats and apply sun cream before Nursery sessions. We will ensure the children have plenty of water to stay hydrated and access to shade. 

Expressive Arts and Design

The children will continue to explore colours and colour mixing through powder paints and large brushes used outside. 

Knowledge of the World

Children will be encouraged to observe the changes in our tadpoles - they have now begun to grow legs so will be released soon!

Maths 

The children will be encouraged to recognise and form numbers through hopskotch games, chalking numbers and creating games on a large scale outside.

Literacy

We are starting to listen for an sort the initial sounds in words. For example the children are learning mouse starts with the sound m and sounds different to the sound s in snake. 

They are also playing lots of games to encourage oral blending this means hearing the sounds c-a-t and putting the word together to say cat. At this stage this is oral and the children will not be recognising the letters. 

Cooking 

We will be exploring different fruits this week. The children will be encouraged to name the different fruits, think about how we need to open the fruits to eat them and of course taste them! They will be involved in peeling, chopping and slicing.
