Nursery get creative with cardboard
Providing children with opportunities for open ended play builds skills that some fixed toys are not able to such as creativity, imagination and resourcefulness. The children have had a great time using empty fruit and paper boxes on a large scale this week. It has inspired creativity as they have transformed and reinvented them. Boxes have became cars, robots, beds for beds. We have had lots of adventures!

Baby Photos!
In Reception, our current topic is 'Growing and Changing' and we are enjoying observing the natural world around us. We are also going to be looking at similarities and differences that occur over time. We would welcome any baby photos of our Reception children. Nursery Newsletter 7.6.19
Dear Parent/Carer,
We had a great start to the Summer Term, children who started last week have quickly settled in and the children are enjoying making new friends. The children enjoyed finding out about bumble bees last week, they were able to touch and explore a real honey comb slab so could see how hard bees worked!
A list of Key Dates for this Half Term:
Wednesday 22nd May - Stay and Play session - Parents are invited to stay with their children for a session based around 'Knowledge of the World'.
Thursday 23rd May - Polling Day (School closed)
Friday 24th May - Break up for Half term. School re-opens on Tuesday 4th June.
Our story this week is: What the ladybird heard by Julia Donaldson
Thank you for any recycling donations made last week. Could parents please continue to bring in clean recycling so we can use them in our junk modelling designs. Egg boxes, cardboard, plastic bottles etc are all very useful.

Maths
The children are encouraged to carefully move pom poms with tweezers into the bee hives. This gives lots of opportunities for counting, sorting and ordering. They will also be encouraged to count sounds and hear how many they have heard e.g. three conkers dropped into a box. The children need to know when to stop counting and that the last number the counted is how many there are.
Creative
We will be junk modelling this week and learning how to join materials.
Communication and Language
We are listening to rhyming stories and playing lots of rhyming games. See if your child can think of any words rhyming with cat or frog after this week!
Knowledge of the World
This week we are cooking 'Cheese and tomatoe bites'. The children have to cut wraps using cutters, spoon in passata and add grated cheese. Although an adult will be present to model any new skills and talk about what is happening the children will be encouraged to use the picture recipe and decide what they should do as a team.

Reception Newsletter 07.05.19
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children settled in well last week and have been enjoying the extension to our outdoor area. In particular the use of the games equipment, now we have some more space. They have also been doing a fantastic job at writing their names when choosing their lunches in the morning. Thank you for all your donations on Friday. The children enjoyed their 'Walk for Water' and learnt about the differences some people in the world face.
Looking forward to year one, we are going to begin encouraging the children to walk down the ramp independently to their classroom in the mornings. There is no rush to do this immediately, but only when you and your child feel they are ready. Staff will welcome the children as usual and support with choosing lunch or putting their things away if needed. Looking forward, we would hope most of the children will be able to achieve this by the end of the summer term.
This week we will be reading ’Jack and the Beanstalk’ as we continue with our Growing and Changing topic. We will be observing our own beans to see if there have been any changes. On Friday all the children will partake in a workshop with the PDSA about pet hospitals.

We will be writing about what we would like to find at the top of a magic beanstalk. We will also be encouraging the children to write letters to our friend Fred the Frog.

Welcome to the Vets!
Welcome to Broadford Vets! Reception's new role play area is up and running and taking appointments daily. The children have loved taking on the role of vets, nurses and receptionists as they work together to look after the animals.
Role play provides children with the opportunity to be creative and use their imaginations to add narratives to their play. Children work and play together developing both their social and language skills.
Next week we have a visit from the PDSA, a leading UK vet charity. This will allow the children to find out more about vets and animal care. This new information, the children will be able to draw on and add into their play developing it further.
