Reception Learning - Week 6

Key Information 

• Parents evening slips will be handed out to the children on Monday. If you did not request a time, you have been allocated on. Please try to make the time you have been given as it is difficult to rearrange.
• Thank you if you have brought in a milk carton. Please keep them coming next week! 
• School photos (individual/siblings) will take place on Wednesday  
• Please ensure you have sent in a spare set of clothes for your child and welly boots if possible.

Maths 

This week we have been focusing on matching and sorting objects. The children have taken part in a range of investigative tasks where they have been using their maths skills to answer questions such as:

Q- Can you find one exactly like mine?

Q- How do you know?

Q- Can you find one that is different to mine?

Q- Why is this not like mine?

Literacy

For the next fortnight we will be focusing on the text 'Super Duper Me'. This lovely story celebrates our qualities and differences. Below we you can see some of the lovely self portraits that we drew and our lollipop houses.

Outdoor learning 

Even as the weather turns a bit colder, the children in Reception LOVE their water play, and so they should... Water play activities help to develop and strengthen children's gross and fine motor skills. Children enhance their gross motor skills, coordination and physical fitness through lifting, pouring, carrying, running and splashing, while actions such as squeezing help to develop the small muscles in a child's hands. Take a look at all the fun this week...

Phonics Learning  

This week in phonics, we have learnt the sounds  c k u b f . We have been practicing our letter formation for each sound in our Read, Write, Inc books. If you would like to practice this further with your child at home, the sheets for each sound can be downloaded by clicking the links below.

Home learning challenge

This week's home learning challenge is to support independence by practicing putting on your own socks and shoes each day. Parents are welcome to upload pictures of children achieving this skill on Evidence me.

Reminder:

Can Parents please bring in a CUP, Wellington boots and a drawstring bag with spare clothes ASAP.

Please LABEL  all your children's belongings, including both shoes. Please ensure your child knows what their cup and wellies look like.

Children do not need to bring in water bottles as we encourage all children to drink using the cups throughout the session. Children do not need to bring bags into nursery, only clothes for their spare clothes bag when required.

Outdoor learning

 

The children have had lots of fun learning in the garden. We have been learning to take turns, develop our big movements (gross motor skills) and most importantly how to safely take risks, for example balancing and jumping from log to log. The children have also been learning how to put their own shoes and coats on, as well as overalls and wellies for outdoor play.

 

 

Indoor learning

The children have shown lots of interest, motivation and determination at the finger gym activity:threading. The children have engaged with all the activities and have their favourites.

All about me

 

Our topic from this week until half term will be ‘All About Me’. the children have been talking about their families, their likes and dislikes and getting to know all about their teachers. We have been concentrating on our emotions this week. Naming emotions including Sad, happy, tired and hungry. The children have been learning to say I AM statements. For example ‘ I AM… happy or I AM sad etc, as they learn to express their emotions and learn their voice is important.

The children have been making bonds this week with both friends and teachers. We have begun to see some special friendships form already.

French Fridays

Every friday the children will participate in a whole class circle time to learn a nursery rhyme in french. The children will also learn basic french words including hello and goodbye. Below is one of the songs the children will learn during french friday circle time.

Session times:

AM: 8.30am to 11.30am

PM: 12.15pm to 3.15pm

30 hours: 8.30am to 3.15pm (lunch 11.30-12.15pm)

 

We understand many of our pupils have siblings and advise parents to drop nursery children first in the morning and collect last at the end of the day. The nursery doors will open at 8.30am until 8.40am. If your child arrives after 8.45am you will be required to enter through the main school office. We understand many families have siblings so please do not stress about pm collection, we know parents will be collecting from another class.

We have had a fantastic week of learning and there has been so much to celebrate and be proud of in Nursery! 

These children worked extremely hard and have been rewarded for all of their determination and efforts.

Nursery: Autumn Term Newsletter

Term: Autumn 2021          

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to Nursery!  We are very excited the children are now in full time. The children have had so much fun getting to know their teachers, making new friends and discovering all the different activities within the nursery.

The nursery blog on the school website and Facebook page are a great way to keep up to date with what is happening in the nursery, along with any upcoming events. It is very important for all parents to check the blog every friday evening to ensure you know what is happening for your child. This half term will be sharing a selection of stories to help us settle in at school. These stories will include traditional tales like Little red riding hood, the gingerbread man and goldilocks and the three bears.

Our learning focus this year will include the areas of development according to the Early Years foundation stage guidance (EYFS):

Communication and Language 

We will be encouraging the children to speak in full sentences to express themselves. Each week will be focusing on a key text which will allow the children to become familiar with the story and retell the story using their own words. 

Personal, Social and Emotional Development 

This half term we are focusing on settling the children into their new environment, ensuring they are aware of expectations and the rules of the setting. We will also be working on sharing resources and taking turns. 

Physical Development 

This term there will be a big focus on gross motor and coordination activities to strengthen our shoulders and core muscles for whole body movements; this is a prerequisite to writing. You will have seen gross motor activities such as: hula hoops, climbing frame, basketball hoops, balancing on the logs and vertical painting. 

Maths

The children will work on number recognition and representing numbers in different ways. There will be a mixture of ordinal (numbers in order), cardinal (a number of objects to count or name by sight), nominal (using numbers as a name ie bus number). This will deepen the children’s number sense and basic math skills. These basic skills will set us up for the rest of the year. 

Literacy 

Stories are a key part of our curriculum and high quality texts will be used throughout the day to foster the children’s love of reading. We will also be starting the Bedtime Story Scheme where your child can take 2 books home each week. A blog post will explain more about the reading scheme and the different ways in which you can share your love of reading with your children.

Mark making opportunities will be available throughout the provision.

Messy Play

Messy play, or sensory play, is the term for any activities allowing children to work with their hands to create a controlled mess. Often involving traditionally messy ingredients such as paint, sand, slime, water, clay or mud, it is geared toward exploring feelings and imagination. Your child will have opportunities to participate in messy play on a daily basis; you will see some of these activities on the blog (and occasionally on their clothes!).

Independence

In nursery, independence will be promoted for your child and encouraged through the daily routines. These include: walking in independently; self-register; using their coat peg; toileting; changing into wellies for the outside area; pouring water into their cups; cleaning their cups. Please support your child by practicing putting on and taking off their socks and shoes at home.

Check the blog on a weekly basis to keep up to date with key dates this year. We do not send letters home. We will send you an email regarding any upcoming Focus Child parent meetings.

Important information:

     

• Please ensure your child has a named set of spare clothes in nursery at all times. 

• All uniform, cups and pack lunch boxes should be labelled with your child’s name. 

• Please can toys from home stay at home. We have lots in school and it saves toys being lost or broken. 

• Your child does not need to bring snacks to school. Fruit and water are available throughout the day for the children to access. The children only need to bring food to school if they are having a packed lunch. 

• Please let the teachers know if your child has any medical needs, allergies or dietary requirements if you have not done so already.

Reception Awards - 01.10.21

   

We have had another great week and there has been so much to celebrate in Reception! These children have worked extremely hard and have been rewarded for all their hard work and efforts.

Dear Parents and Carers,

If you buy milk in the carton shape above (any size), can you please send this in with your child instead of putting in the recycling? Starting next week we are doing a mini art project and we will need lots of cartons to ensure each child gets to create what we are planning, so the more you can bring in, the better.
