Apple Class join the Circus!

Apple class have had a busy morning with their circus workshop! We have been spinning toothbrushes and plates, balancing feathers and twirling ribbons. The children worked together as a team to tackle the tightrope and some children even had a go on the pogo sticks, balancing balls and flower sticks. The children had to use lots of skills, coordination and resilience when trying these new skills.

Superhero School!

This week the reception classes have turned into a Superhero School! We have been working on developing our superhero skills of balance, accuracy, stealth, speed and flight. The children encouraged each other as they had to climb through the spiders web using their stealth and concentration skills. There was lots of reciprocity happening as they cheered each other on and helped their friends through. We have also seen lots of fantastic superhero cape creations as the children designed and created their own superheros. With these dedicated superheros in training, everyone is in safe hands!

We had a busy week last week, what with the author visit, making cookies, creating dinosaur shape pictures and completing our junk modelling animals.  We will continue with the exploration of dinosaurs.   Our songs of the week will be ‘Alice the camel’ and ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’.

We will continue with the teaching of phonics, we will teach ‘s’ next.  We will also continue with all of our literacy games which include rhyming and alliteration activities, along with our shape and number activities.

Personal, Social and Emotional

• Plays alongside others.
• Is aware of others' feelings, for example, looks concerned if hears crying or looks excited if hears a familiar happy voice.
• Responds to the feelings and wishes of others.

Communication and Language

• Developing understanding of simple concepts (e.g. big/little).
• Beginning to ask simple questions.
• Beginning to understand 'why' and 'how' questions.

 

Literacy

• Imitates drawing simple shapes such as circles and lines.
• Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories.
• Shows interest in play with sounds, songs and rhymes.

Physical Development:

• Drinks well without spilling.
• Can kick a large ball.
• Develops likes and dislikes for food.

Mathematics

• Begins to use the language of size.
• Notices simple shapes and patterns in pictures.
• Selects a small number of objects from a group when asked, for example, 'please give me one', 'please give me two'.

Understanding of the World

• Operates mechanical toys, e.g. turns the knob on a wind-up toy or pulls back on a friction car.
• Enjoys playing with small world models, such as farms.
• Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and operating some ICT equipment

 

Expressive Arts and Design

• Begins to move to music, listen to or join in rhymes or songs.
• Joins in singing favourite songs.
• Notices and is interested in the effects of making movements which leave marks.

Messages.

Please ensure your child is dressed suitable for the cold weather, Also Riley in the afternoon, has lost his grey striped hat.  We have a very similar one left in the Nursery, so if your child has taken it home in error we would appreciate its safe return. Please name scarves, gloves and hats where possible.

We have received some of your photos from the Christmas Holidays, if you haven’t already done so please bring in or  email us a couple of photographs for your child to share and talk about.

Maths through play, the best way!

The children took great delight exploring this new maths machine. They talked about how two sets of bottle tops equalled a new total.

Look at our new Fort!

Thank you to Mrs Light and her husband for building this amazing fort out of Mrs Chisholms left over decking! This will give the children many opportunities to develop speech, language and imaginative skills. 

Aspen Reading Certificates

Well done to Charlie and Brooke who have received their Bronze certificates. Congratulations to Ellie has already read 50 books and managed to achieve her Silver Certificate!

Well done to Blake,Leah,Kanishka,Harry, Peter and Molly who have all received their book marks for reading 25 books.
