Learning Challenge

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning, this is in line with the rest of the school. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class however the table below details some ideas for the learning challenge.

Poem/Song to learn: 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on a bed.

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,

One fell off and bumped his head. Mother called the doctor and the doctor said: 'No more jumping on the bed!'

1.    Learn it off by heart. 2.    Draw a picture to illustrate the rhyme.	3.    To create your own hand art and take a photo. 4.    To create your own animal picture at home.

Nursery Newsletter 16.4.18

Dear Parent/Carer,
We hope you had a lovely Easter Break. We are looking forward to an exciting Summer term, hopefully the warmer weather will continue! Our topic is 'Amazing Animals'. We are starting the topic this week by thinking about the question 'Are eggs alive?' The children have a variety of eggs to examine, including frogspawn!

There school will be closed for pupils on the following days this half term. This is for a polling day and inset days.

Our school trip for Barleylands is on the 10th May. Information about this will be available
next week.

Mark Making/Creative
The children have feathers and other collage materials available to create their own fluffy birds/chicks.

Mathematics
We will be encouraging the children to count objects accurately and learn that the last number said is the total. The children have plastic eggs on the maths table, they will be encourage to count the spots on the eggs and match this with the number.

Physical
In their weekly PE lessons the children are learning different running and chasing games. They
have to listen carefully to instructions to achieve this.

Communication and Language
We are continuing to focus on rhyme this week. The children are playing matching
rhyming games in small groups. Please point out any rhyming words in stories you
are reading at home.
Encouraging children to use simple sentences correctly.
Encouraging children to hold a conversation and respond to comments.

Understanding of the World
The children will be examining different eggs and watch a clip of chicks hatching. This half term we have tadpoles they will be able to observe them closely as the grow and change. The children will also be able to visit the chicks coming shortly to Year 2.

In the home corner we will be giving the children opportunities to re-enact
experiences and talk about their home lives.

Personal and Social Development
Ensuring children are able to co-operate with routines and some boundaries.
Modelling the correct behaviours in play, ensuring children use resources well
and begin to share with other children.

Reception Star Readers!

Congratulations to all our star readers this week! 

In Alder Class Starla Olley has achieved both her bookmark an Bronze award for reading over 25 books. Great work Starla! Well done to Shivangi Zala  for receiving her Platinum award for reading 150 books.

In Aspen Class Janiyah Cousins has achieved her bookmark for reading over 10 books! Well done to Frankie who has achieved his silver reading award and book token for reading over 50 books whilst also completing his learning challenge! 

In Apple Class Lidia Catlin and Isaac Gilmour-Woodstock have read 75 books receiving a book of their choice. Summer Carruth and Tele Onabajo has enow reached 150 books and received their platinum star reader trophys.

Dear Parents,

Welcome back everyone, we hope you and your children are well rested.  This term our topic is ‘Growing and Changing’. We will be looking at growth and change in humans, creatures and plants. Please send in a baby picture of your child, we can photocopy originals or email it to us directly.

We will be reading and exploring various texts.  This week we will start with Jack and the Beanstalk.  We will also be planting our own beans and look forward to monitoring the seedlings progress.

       The learning objectives:

Personal, Social and Emotional

Confident to speak to others about own needs, wants interests and opinions.

Explains own knowledge and understanding, and asks appropriate questions of others.

Enjoys responsibility of carrying out small tasks.

Communication and Language

They develop their narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.

Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking ideas, feelings and events.

Extends vocabulary, especially by grouping and naming, exploring the meaning and sounds of new words.

Literacy

Uses vocabulary and forms of speech that are increasingly influenced by their experiences of books.

Knows that information can be retrieved from books and computers.

Physical Development:

Eats a healthy range of foodstuffs and understands the need for variety in food.

       Shows some understanding that good practices with regard to exercise, eating, sleeping and hygiene can contribute to good health.

Use a pencil and holds it effectively to form recognisable letters, most of which are correctly formed.

Mathematics

To count reliably with numbers 1-20

To select the correct numeral to represent 1-20.

To match numerals to quantity.

Understanding The World

Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things.

Recognises and describes special times or events for families and friends.

Expressive arts and design

Understands that different media can be combined to create new effects.

Manipulates materials to achieve a planned effect.

Selects appropriate resources and adapts work where necessary.

The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class. Please find some ideas in the table below.  Please ensure the completed challenge is handed in to your child’s teacher by Monday 21st May, so that the certificates can be prepared.

Reception and Nursery Parents Reports

Just a reminder that you will be receiving  your child's 2simple Report by the end of this week. The reports consist of approximately eight observations and photographs of your children to give you an overview of the activities your children take part in.

Most of you set up your accounts when you received the Christmas Reports by email.  If you are still having issues receiving your reports please speak to your Class Teacher who will be able to check the email address they have for you on the system.  Alternatively you can email the eyfs email address with any problems:

The Report's go out at Christmas and Easter and then in the summer term you will get a paper progress Report. 

Thank You Reception Parents!

A big thank you to the parents that have made contributions of wood to our woodwork area.  

The children have had great fun creating their models.  Riley built an amazing bus stop yesterday. He demonstrated great resilience when he had to find a more appropriate piece of wood and adapt his model.  He was also able to articulate his thought process and enjoyed presenting his model to the class, answering the questions of his peers.  Maya-Rose asked "Where do the people sit who are waiting for a bus?" Riley replied " I'm going to add another piece of wood to make a seat" 

Woodwork is beneficial to many areas of development for young children.  It offers opportunities for development of fine motor skills, creativity and problem solving and much more. 

Alder Class Spring 2 Learning Challenge

Alder Class have been working hard at home on their Learning Challenges. We have enjoyed finding out facts about the children's favourite superheroes, listening to the children reciting the nursery rhyme and producing collages of work based on Jack and Jill went up the Hill and listening to the piece of music March composed by Johann-Strauss Radetzky.
