Reception Learning Journey 

Week of 2nd-6th October 

This week we have been reading the story Elmer and discussing how wonderful it is to be different! We have used collage, painting and colouring to create patchwork Elmer's and elephant masks to use in our play. Some vocabulary we have focused on this week is herd, unique, patchwork and celebrate. 

We have been continuing to explore different areas in our classrooms, using our imagination and new learning at school to create, observe and discuss. Outside, we've engaged our fine and gross motor skills by riding bikes, digging in the mud kitchen and pouring from containers in the water area. Ask your child about their favourite area to play in at school!

This week in maths our focus was on matching and sorting based on colour, size and shape. 

The phonics sounds we learnt this week are c, k, u, b, f.  Please continue to practice these sounds at home with your child and bring their reading folder in on their reading day.

Important reminders 

• Thursday 12th October is school photo day. The individual photos will be taken during your child's nursery session. If you require a sibling photo, you must turn come to the school office between 7:45 and 8:45. If you miss this time you will be unable to have a sibling photo as the photographers work on a very tight schedule. 

• Please ensure everything that your child brings into nursery has a name label on it.

• Please remember to take your child's reading folder out of their bag and place it in the box when they come in on Thursdays. Reading books are changed with the children every Friday as part of our Bedtime Reading scheme.

• Evidence Me-Over the next month we will start sharing observations on our parent share app. Please do add your own videos and photos from home as parents can also share achievements. 

We have had another amazing week in Nursery. We have loved seeing the children grow in confidence, transitioning into the nursery with big smiles and becoming familiar with their environment.  Below you can see some of the activities we have been getting up to.

What brilliant pattern making from some of our children in the maths area. We have been exploring colours and look at how they can make patterns. It was great to see the children working independently on this after being shown what to do. 

The home corner got lots of use as usually this week. The children were cooking up a storm in their new restaurant and there were plenty of mouths to feed! Our key vocabulary this week was 'please' and 'thank you' which the children were encouraged to use in their play... 

'Please can I have...?

'Thank you for coming...'

'Can I take your order please?'

'Thank you for my delicious food.'

There was lots of fun in the water this week when we had a bubble explosion in our outdoor  area. The children loved exploring the water with the bubble in it, pouring them, seeing if they could make it travel down the guttering and even using the bubbles in our mud kitchen. 

Our two year olds are always keen to show us their skills and this week we were treated to hoop tricks and fast bikes! 

The outdoors was very popular this week as the sun was shining, which allowed the children to explore the resources. These panels are usually used to build tunnels but the children decided that they waned to make an obstacle course on the floor with them. This then turned into a game of 'the floor is lava'. 

Our snack area is always popular and this week the children loved making their own snack. We focused on the skill of spreading, using butter, jam and marmalade with a knife. 

The children loved the independence of being able to make their own snack. Look at these lovely, happy faces as they tuck into their scrumptious bagels.

Nursery certificates- 6.10.23

 

Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work. 

A massive congratulations to Dhaksha, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for the fantastic way she looks after the toys in Nursery. Dhaksha plays beautifully with the resources and at tidy up time, she not only puts her things away but she also helps her friends. Keep up the fantastic work, Dhaksha! 

A huge well done to Charlie, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for his growing confidence in Nursery. Charlie comes in to Nursery each day with a big smile, helps his friends and teachers and also asks for help when he needs it. keep it up Charlie, you are doing amazingly. 

Reception's 'Marvellous Me' Day - Friday 20th October

  Reception's 'Marvellous Me' Day

On Friday 20th October children in Reception will be participating in a 'Marvellous Me' Day. This half term in Reception, we have been been thinking about all of the things that make us marvellous. We have discussed our families, our likes and dislikes and our similarities and differences with our classmates.

What better way to round up this topic than to hold a WOW Day for us to celebrate all the things that make us, us? On this day, children in Reception can come to school wearing clothes of their choice. This could be their favourite outfit, clothes in their favourite colour or clothes that represent something about them. Please discuss this with your child so that they are able to share with us in school why they have chosen their outfit. They can also bring their favourite toy to school on this day. These will be collected in the morning and stored until our circle time when the children can share their favourite toys with their class. They will then be stored until home time to ensure safe keeping.

Throughout the day, the children will be participating in lots of different activities celebrating them being unique. As part of our activities on this day, we will be discussing our families and what different families can look like. Please send a photo of your child with their family to the reception email reception@broadford.havering.sch.uk to aid with this activity. Alternatively, hand the photo in a named envelope to your child's class teacher.

Each week, a child in each class is awarded the E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

Each week, the mid-day assistants will award a child in each class with a MDA award for demonstrating consistently good behaviour at lunchtime.

Dojo Winner Of The Week

During the week, the children in reception can earn dojo points for good behaviour. They can earn these for good listening on the carpet, being kind and polite, sharing and tidying resources or helping a friend. Each week, the child with the most dojo points will be awarded with a certificate and have their photo displayed in the classroom.

Reception Morning routine

 

Dear Reception parents and carers, 

Thank you for your support in settling the children into reception. 

The children have settled into the morning routine very well. We would like to encourage parents to drop their children at the door and let them put their coats and bags away independently. 

Our goal for the remainder of the term is for the children to be capable of managing their own personal items. Please encourage your child to put their personal belongings in the correct place to assist us. The children’s pegs and trays are clearly labelled with their name and picture. 

There will always be a teacher on the door to welcome the children and a member of staff available if children need any guidance when putting their belongings away. 

If you have any questions or concerns please speak to your child’s class teacher at the end of the day.
