Term: Spring 1 Date 13.01.14
A big thank you for the wonderful turnout at our Stay and Play session; it was lovely to see so many families spending time in the classrooms.
Our topic is ‘Superheores’. We will be focussing on, ‘Learning Power Heroes’ thinking about the 4Rs; Reciprocity (working together), Reflectiveness (thinking about how we learn), Resourcefulness (learning in different ways) and Resilience (sticking at tasks). This week your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (although the skills remain the same, the activities may differ):
Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
During Circle time we will be finding out what the children already know and want they want to find out about Superheroes? Then we will be introducing the idea of learning power heroes, encouraging the children to see themselves as powerful, in charge of their own learning and identifying their own strengths.
Communication and Language:
Children will be encouraged to talk about what they think they are good at and how they can help others.
The children need to be bringing in their reading books daily. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place.
Physical:
Making a Superheroes obstacle course.
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Clark. All children need a PE kit in school.
Literacy:
Writing our names, encouraging correct pencil grip.
Continuing our daily Read, Write Inc. sessions.
Writing in speech bubbles about our strengths - encouraging children to use their phonic knowledge to spell simple word unaided.
Maths:
In small groups we will be playing superhero bingo – matching number to quantity.
In whole maths sessions we will be focussing on measuring e.g. taller/shorter, big/little and heaviest/lightest.

Our next Stay and Play session is on Friday 24th January. This will be about ‘The love of Reading’ and what the library has to offer. There will be two sessions: 9.00 - 9.45 or 2.30 - 3.15.
Homework:
Please continue to read daily with your child and sign their reading record. When your child brings home their words, please practise them as this supports their learning in school.
Thank you for your continued support.
