Reception Weekly Newsletter

Term: Spring 1 Date 27.01.14

We will be continuing our topic ‘Superheroes’ as the children are really enjoying it and are full of ideas. This week our focus book is ‘Max’.

This week your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (although the skills remain the same, the activities may differ):

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
During Circle time we will be discussing ways in which we have been using Reciprocity, Resilience, Resourcefulness and Reflectiveness.

Communication and Language :
In small groups throughout the week, children will be playing games to reinforce their understanding of asking and answering questions.
All the children have a set reading day. Please make sure their book is in school at least for their reading day. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place. Many children have already received their bronze award.

Physical:
Improving our Superheroes obstacle course based on the children’s trials and new ideas.
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Clark. All children will need a PE kit in school.

Literacy
Writing our names encouraging correct pencil grip.
We will be continuing our daily Read, Write Inc. sessions.

Maths
Make superheroes using pre-cut shapes. Children to describe using mathematical terms.
Hunting for superheroes hiding in the garden – using tally charts to record.
Forming numbers accurately from 0 to 20.

Enjoying our daily dance warm up to the ‘5 a day’ fitness programme.

Messages:
Please follow Broadford on facebook (remember to press the ‘like’ button) and twitter. We update the Early Years blog regularly with photos and information.

Children may bring in something related to Superheroes for ‘Show and Tell’ on Friday afternoon. We have enjoyed the children bringing in their Superhero costumes.

Don’t forget our ‘Whole School Challenge Afternoon’ is taking place on Thursday 30th January. The challenge talk starts at 1.30. After the talk you will be welcome to come down to the classes to take part in some challenging activities.

Homework:
Please continue to read daily with your child and sign their reading record. When your child brings home their words, please practise them as this supports their learning in school.

Thank you for your continued support.
