Weekly Reception Newsletter 11.05.15

Term: Summer 1 Date: 11.05.15

Topic: 'The world Around us (including Cultural and fantasy Stories)'.

The children enjoyed our VE day anniversary Celebrations on Friday. They were interested in finding out about the war, what rationing was and why it was such a special day.

We have another busy week ahead, the farm will be with us on Monday and we will be holding our stay and play session on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30-3.00 , with a Mathematical focus. We hope to see you all there.

This week we will be basing our learning around the story of ‘Farmer Duck.’

During the week your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests; however, the skills remain the same):

Communication and Language
  • Sharing the story of, ‘Farmer Duck’ and getting the children to ask, who, what why and how questions.
  • Discussing our farm visit answering 'how' and 'why' questions about their experiences.
  • Children will be encouraged to express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners' needs.
  • All the children have a set reading day. Please make sure their book is in school at least for their reading day. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place.
  • They give their attention to what others say and respond appropriately, while engaged in another activity.

  • Children sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them.
  • To paint pictures of their favourite farm animals using a variety of materials, tools and techniques
Learning Challenge

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.

Poem/Song to learn:Teddy bear, Teddy bear

Teddy bear, teddy bear,

Turn around!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the ground!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Jump up high!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the sky!

Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Bend down low!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch you toes!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn out the light!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Say good night!
