We had a great visitor today, Charlie the story teller. The children took great delight in listening to his story about a herd of elephants that came from a traditional African folk tale. The children had the opportunity to join in with singing, rhyming, acting and the playing of musical instruments. They were encouraged to play the instruments in time to the rhymes and took on the roles of the various elephants. Charlie had a wicked sense of humour pitched just at the right level for 4 and 5 years, this helped to engage the children in the art of storytelling. Storytelling is a great skill to assist the children's speech and language development, furthermore if the children can retell a story than they are on the way to writing one too! The children demonstrated that they were able to maintain attention, concentration and sit quietly during the appropriate parts. Srinika was animated and said "I will sprinkle water on you!"
