Reception Newletter 03.06.19

Term: Summer 2                Date: 03.06.19

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you have had a lovely half term with your families and are ready and rested for the final half term of the year. We cannot believe quite how quickly the year has gone!

This week we will be reading ’The Promise’ to finish off our growing and changing topic. Our caterpillars will be arriving this week and we are hoping to be releasing some butterflies into the wild in a few weeks time.

As it it the final half term in Reception we will be looking at a few things to make the transition into year one as smooth as possible. Some children have already started to walk down the ramp to their classrooms on their own (or with friends). We will be encouraging all of the children to walk down the ramp independently in the mornings. There is no rush to do this immediately, but only when you and your child feel they are ready. Staff will welcome the children as usual and support with choosing lunch or putting their things away if needed. We would hope most of the children will be able to achieve this by the end of the summer term.

We are very excited about our final trip of the year to Weald Park, where we will become pirates for the day! Please complete the Google form on facebook or the blog. If you are having trouble, please check in with your class teacher. We will also be looking for parent volunteers to help on the trip.

Communication and Language

We are encouraging children to use talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.

Physical Development
As we continue to develop the children’s fine motor strength we are now also focussing on their letter and number formation as well. Particularly encouraging and correcting backwards formed letters and numbers. The children are busy practising for Sports Day in their PE lessons.

Maths
We will be looking at addition and subtraction this week. The children will be using concrete objects to help them solve problems as well as number lines.

Literacy
The children will writing about themselves for the weekly writing challenge. We will also be comparing animals talking about similarities and differences.

Understanding the World
We will be checking the progress of our beanstalks and sunflowers and continuing to care for these. We will be looking at changes focusing on both the life cycle of a caterpillar and a tadpole.

Learning Challenge
Each half term we will be setting our pupils an optional challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class. Please find some ideas in the table below.

Person: Tinkerbell or Captain Hook
Piece of Music: George Frideric Handel Water Music
Nursery Rhyme: A Sailor went to sea
