E for Excellence

Each week, a child in each class is awarded the E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

Aspen - Azlan

For participating in class discussions, sharing your ideas with your peers and adults. You have also been applying the sounds you have learnt to write words! Well done, Azlan!

Apple - Rostam

For practising your counting this week and sitting on the carpet. Well done, Rostam!

Alder - Tiya 

For trying your best everyday. You are always focused during our carpet sessions and continue to practise any new learning in your choosing time. Well done, Tiya! 

Dojo Winner Of The Week

During the week, the children in reception can earn dojo points for good behaviour. They can earn these for good listening on the carpet, being kind and polite, sharing and tidying resources or helping a friend. Each week, the child with the most dojo points will be awarded with a certificate and have their photo displayed in the classroom.

105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford Primary 

The children will be awarded with a Bronze, Silver or Gold award when they have read 15 of the 105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford. Please refer to the booklet in your child's reading folder for the list of books. 

Bronze- Read 5 books 

 Silver- Read 10 books 

Gold- Read all 15 books 

Please read with your child at home in order for them to have an opportunity to achieve a reading certificate.

Nursery Certificates- 08.12.23

   

Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work. 

A massive congratulations to Ivaan, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for his excellent listening this week in his key group time. Ivaan, listened to instructions and worked hard to follow them, waiting his turn and joining in at the correct times. Super job Ivaan, keep it up.  

A huge well done to Ariana, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her kindness. Ariana always makes sure she includes everyone when she plays. She looks after children and checks they are ok. She is always smiling and enjoys being with others. Well done Ariana, keep it up!

• Next week the nursery children will be taking a trip in small groups to the local post box with their special Christmas cards. We will be walking sensibly with our teachers.

• Reception school applications: Please be aware reception application deadline is January 15th 2024. Outcomes will be released April 2024. Please use this link to apply for your child's primary school place for September 2024 https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/

• Nursery closes Tuesday 19th December for Christmas holidays

• Nursery reopens Thursday 4th January 2024

Play this week:

The children enjoyed exploring light on the light box this week. They joined the glass pebbles to make patterns and shapes. They had to negotiate sharing the resources and working as a team to make patterns. 

The children have been enjoying using spreaders and glue to create their own colourful collages. They particularly  enjoyed exploring ova glue and watching how it dripped down and they could make patterns on their paper. 

The children enjoyed using the Christmas scenery and snow in the tuff tray. They were telling a story about the Christmas train and how it got stuck in the snow! The children have been very helpful and remembered to seep up the snow if it traveled out of the tray. 

The children have had fun making and icing Christmas biscuits this week at nursery. They choose their own colours to decorate their biscuit and had lots of fun eating them.

We have been very creative in the art are this week come up with different activities to explore Christmas. From mark making, sticking and gluing to beautiful paint art work. But best of all we used lots of glitter and sequins which the children love best.

• The Reception Christmas Concert will be on the 7th December at 9.15am and 2pm. Please send your child in wearing dark trousers and a white shirt on Thursday. They can wear a Christmas jumper over the top.

Topic:

This week we read the story Stick Man! 

We practiced retelling the story using our story tray and worked on talking to a partner about ideas and themes in the book including family, feelings, environment and weather changes. We discussed different family dynamics and made our own family tree. 

Children braved the cold to go on a nature walk around the field, finding sticks to create their own Stickmen. 

Maths: 

This week we expanded our number knowledge to 4 and 5, looking at parts of these numbers. Children began to understanding that big numbers are made up of smaller numbers and completed activities to deepen this knowledge. We used songs such as 5 Little Speckled Frogs to explore one more and one less.

A massive congratulations to Nylah, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her growing independence. Nylah did a fantastic job at tracing over the letters of her name this week. She did it with very little support and was super proud of her achievement. Well done Nylah! 

A huge well done to Andrew, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for his growing confidence. Andrew loves playing with his friends and this week, he chose to interact with Mrs Light. We love seeing Andrew's confidence grow, well done! 

Well done to Evandy who has completed her tracker by reading 'our three favourite books' for two year olds in Nursery! Super job, keep up the reading!

Focus play this week:

This week the children have been working on talking turns during our singing activity. Each person chose their favourite instrument and named it from our basket. By the end of the game the children had learned a new song, identified the names of instruments and took turns playing their instrument along side their friends. 

Book of the week:

This week the children have been listening to the book Colour me happy. The children really enjoyed naming the colours and discussing our emotions. Some of the children were able to discuss the similarities and differences between Colour me happy and our zones of regulation we use to check in with our emotions at nursery.

Our learning fun this week:
