Well done Megan and Charlie

Charlie delighted us with his project on butterflies last half term and this half term Megan very excitedly told us about her hunt for dinosaurs. We very much enjoy sharing 'wow' moments that happen outside of school and look forward to seeing more from the children in Aspen and Fern class.

Broadford's Next Olympic Swimmer

Isabelle has now achieved stage 1 in her 'Learn to Swim' award.  She shared her news with her peers and the nursery staff and told them that she is going to do stage 2 next. She was very pleased with herself so well done Isabelle!

Why Do People Need Emergency food?

Today people across the UK will struggle to feed themselves and their families. Redundancy, illness, benefit delay, domestic violence, debt, family breakdown and paying for the additional costs of heating during winter are just some of the reasons why people go hungry.

Couple forced to borrow soup to feed 18-month-old daughter.

When temperatures plummet in winter, foodbank clients across the UK are often forced to choose between eating and heating. For Anne-Marie and Danny, 22, a delay in benefits hit at the same time as Danny was off work with flu. He received no sick pay and finances got so tight that they were faced with eviction as well as having no money for food.

The couple and their 18-month-old daughter, Tia, were living and sleeping in one room to reduce heating bills. They resorted to borrowing a tin of soup from their neighbours to stop little Tia going hungry. When the foodbank delivered an emergency foodbox to the delighted family there was ice on the inside of their windows.

‘I don't know what we would have done next if it wasn’t for the foodbank' says Danny.

It takes A Real Hero to Stand up To Hunger

On Thursday 12^th June we are holding a food drive in school to support our local foodbank. This is part of the Free the Children charity, ‘We Scare Hunger’ campaign. Millions of people around the world go hungry every day, even in the UK. Together, we can help feed people in need, build a stronger neighbourhood and stop hunger before it strikes.

As it takes a real hero to stand up to hunger next Thursday we are asking all pupils to come to school dressed as their favourite superhero and bring in an item of long life food from the following list;

Milk (UHT or powdered)

Sugar (500g)

Fruit juice (carton)

Soup

Pasta sauces

Sponge pudding (tinned)

Tomatoes (tinned)

Cereals

Rice pudding (tinned0

Tea bags / Instant coffee

Instant mash potato

Tinned meat / fish

Tinned fruit

Jam

Biscuits or snack bars

There will be prizes for best costume and for the class who donate the most food.

Here come the fire fighters!

As part of their topic 'People Who Help Us', the Nursery children got to enjoy a visit from the fire fighters. They enjoyed learning about the roles of a fire fighter and got to climb into the fire engine and spray the hose!!

Amazing Mathematicians!

Andreea and Kara independently played Mathematical games. The games entailed them ordering numbers both backwards and forwards. Counting groups of animals and using mathematical language such as more than and less than. Well done girls!

Our visit from the fireman

This week we have had the fireman into school to speak with the children about how to keep safe and to show them the different parts of the fire engine. The fireman let the children have a go at using the hose and the children all had an opportunity to sit in the fire engine with the fireman's hat on.
