Nursery Newsletter 30.11.15

Term:  Autumn 2                          Date 30.11.15

 We will continue with our colour topic, especially looking at nocturnal animals.  Our story of the week is ‘The Gruffallos child’, we will continue to learn our Christmas Songs, we are really pleased with the progress that they are making.

 The children are enjoying the Christmas Shop, they have been developing many skills including communication, language and social skills.

 We will be focussing on many activities this week including cutting skills and name writing. 

 Personal, Social and Emotional

• Uses a familiar adult as a secure base from which to explore independently in new environments
• Demonstrates sense of self as an individual.
• Remembers where objects belong.

 Communication and Language

• Beginning to talk about people and things that are not present.
• Learns new words very rapidly and is able to use them in communicating.
• Beginning to ask simple questions.

Literacy

• Distinguishes between the different marks they make.
• Has some favourite stories, rhymes, songs, poems or jingles.
• Beginning to use three fingers (tripod grip) to hold writing tools.

Physical Development:

• Beginning to use three fingers (tripod grip) to hold writing tools
• Shows control in holding and using jugs to pour, hammers, books and mark-making tools.
• May be beginning to show preference for dominant hand.

Mathematics

• Attempts, sometimes successfully, to fit shapes into spaces on inset boards or jigsaw puzzles.
• Developing understanding of simple concepts (e.g. big/little).
• Creates and experiments with symbols and marks representing ideas of number.

 

Understanding of the World

• Learns that they have similarities and differences that connect them to, and distinguish them from, others.
• Is curious about people and shows interest in stories about themselves and their family.
• Enjoys pictures and stories about themselves, their families and other people.

 

Expressive Arts and Design

• Beginning to make-believe by pretending.
• Move their whole bodies to sounds they enjoy, such as music or a regular beat.
• Experiments with blocks, colours and marks.

 

 

 

 Learning Challenge

 

As mentioned last week,  each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning, this is in line with the rest of the school. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

 

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class however the table below details some ideas for the learning challenge.

Costume Requirements:

Thank you for all the costumes that have been sent in as requested, if you haven’t already sent them in please do so, asap.

 

Girls – White tights or leggings and a white t-shirt

Boys – Dressing gown and tea towel

 

Furthermore please don’t buy a costume, the children are happier when they are all dressed the same.
