Nursery: Autumn Term 2, Weeks 5 and 6

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are thrilled to have the children back in the nursery and have been so impressed with how well they have engaged with the learning environment!

All the children have received a Bookstart pack and can enjoy keeping these books to read at home. On Friday 4th December the Bedtime Story Scheme will commence; more information will be provided around this in a separate blog.

Before any thing else, the school office have requested that if your child is not attending nursery you need to phone in to give the reason. This is not usual practice but will support the school to keep safe during the current climate.

What is the focus in adult led learning?

The themes for weeks 5 and 6 of this term are linked to the following key dates:

  • Int. Day of Persons with Disabilities (03.12.20)

  • Hannuka (10th-18th Dec)/ Christmas

Literacy

In week 5, we will be reading the following books (click on the link to be taken to the Bookstart outline):

In week 6, we will be reading the following Christmas themed books:

We will continue to use ‘Tales Toolkit’ to support children to use language in an imaginative way and to start sequencing events. Find out more about this literacy scheme that is used as a learning resources across Broadford Primary School: https://talestoolkit.com/

Phonics Phase 1

We will be going on a listening walk to embed the learning around challenging children to tune into the sounds around them, we will also be exploring what sounds different materials make when hit.

Mathematics

In maths, across the two weeks we will be focussing on size comparisons and exploring shapes. We will be counting from 0-10 and back again. Encourage your child to count at home and join in the counting fun using mathematical nursery rhymes: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-counting-songs/zn67kmn

How did parents and carers respond to the home learning during school closure?

We were all thrilled with your positive feedback during the school closure, we aimed to connect with the children using technology so that they could still hear and see us whilst apart. Here is some feedback from parents and carers regarding the home learning we sent to you whilst the school was closed, thank you for all your engagement:

  • My child enjoyed singing with Miss Ngenge and listening the story with Mrs Light.”
  • “A very good example that you did when a child has broken their toys and how we should to talk to them..... Thank you I love it.”
  • My child and I would like to thank you for the lovely stories and Nursery Rhyme songs she really enjoyed listening and especially joining along to the songs and actions. I personally enjoyed learning new strategies on how to handle situations and how to approach them in a more appropriate way to express their feelings in a positive way.”
  • “Thank you for all the video you post. It keeps my child busy for some time. He thinks you are watching him from the otherside so he is on his best behaviour when I play your videos”

You said, we did!

During the lockdown, some parents/ carers contacted us to say that their devices were not letting them play the videos through Evidence Me. In response to this we uploaded the videos to the Broadford Primary School YouTube page. Thank you for you feedback, it helps us to continue to develop and improve our practice.

We look forward to the year progressing and thank you for your support!

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
