The Little Red Hen

This week in Reception, we have been reading the story of 'The Little Red Hen'. The story is all about a little red hen that wants to make some bread but nobody will help her.We have been thinking about what it means to be a kind friend and how we can help each other. During the week we learnt a  Little Red Hen 'rap', acted out the story, made some masks and even made our own bread!

Here is the ingredients that we used...

  • 1.5 kg bag of plain flour
  • 2 sachets of dried yeast
  • 900 ml of warm water
  • (1/3 of hot water mixed with cold)
  • 1 dessert spoon of caster sugar
  • 1 dessert spoon of salt

Here is the recipe that we followed..

  1. Sieve flour, salt and yeast into a bowl.
  2. Add warm water.
  3. Mix to a dough.
  4. Knead the dough.
  5. Leave the dough to rise.
  6. Put dough in a tin and bake in a oven.
  7. Leave bread to cool down.
  8. Slice, eat and enjoy!

Why don't you try this for yourself?
