Reception Weekly Newsletter
Term: Autumn 2 Date 11.11.13
The children had a great first week back and have inspired us with lots of ideas. Although our general topic is about colour and pattern, the children have expressed a particular interest in ‘Space’.
On Monday our focus will be Remembrance Day and on Tuesday we have a company coming to school to perform the pantomime Aladdin.
Personal, Social and Emotional
Children are aware of the boundaries and behavioural expectations.
To develop an understanding that their own actions can affect others.
Communication and Language
Listening to and joining in with the pantomime. Using role play to follow up their learning.
Physical Development:
Using the outside area to climb confidently.
Developing fine motor skills by using tools such as tweezers, threading and play dough
Children are now required to change into their PE kits when going for PE with our sports coach. Please make sure your child’s kit in in school and is clearly labelled.
Literacy:
We will be continuing with our daily Read, Write Inc. groups.
Children will be practising their name writing to ensure correct formation.
Please ensure your child’s reading book is in school on their reading day.
Mathematics
Singing the ‘days of the week/months of the year' songs.
Practising number formation and understanding of number through playing bingo.
Understanding of the World
Remembering and talking about significant events – the children will be learning about Remembrance Day.
Creating ‘poppy’ pictures on the computer.
Creating space stories in the sand tray.
Exploring reflective materials in the water tray.
Expressive Arts and Design
Role play – the Post Office
Large scale 'fields of poppies' pictures outside using pipettes.
Making colour wheels – mixing colours to notice change.
Messages.
Show and tell this week is related to ‘Space’.
As the weather gets wetter, please ensure your child has a suitable coat and footwear for outdoor learning.
