Reception Weekly Newsletter
Term: Autumn 2 Date 09.12.13/16.12.13
This week and next, we will be Christmas Stories along with some of the children's favourites. Over the course of the week, the children will be taking part in many activities learning many new skills.
Personal, Social and Emotional
To gain an understanding of the true meaning of Christmas, through sharing stories.
Communication and Language
Sharing the story, ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ and providing materials for props, to observe how children interpret the story.
Listening to children read their reading books. Please ensure books are brought into school every day.
Physical
Exploring the outdoor equipment.
Developing fine motor skills through tracing activities, using tweezers and manipulating dough.
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Clark.
Literacy
Writing our names, encouraging correct pencil grip.
Daily phonics sessions – the children will now be split into ability groups and taught by staff that are fully trained in the delivery of Read, Write, Inc.
Maths
Reinforcing formation and recognition of numbers 1 to10 through playing bingo
Making paper chains, to secure knowledge of repeating patterns.
Developing an understanding of positional and directional language. Giving instructions to our friends.
Solving problems from, ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ Story.
Understanding of the World
Exploring our snow scene sensory trays.
Using the beebot to deliver letters to the characters in ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’.
Expressive Arts and Design
Music and movement on the stage outside.
Completing Christmas crafts.
Wrapping and weighing parcels in our post office role play.
Performing our Christmas Show.
Messages.
Show and tell is on a Friday. Children may bring in items related to our topic.
This will be the final newsletter for this term. We would like to say a big thank you for all of your support and kindness throughout the term. We trust your children have enjoyed their first term with us as much as we have.
