We hope you all had an enjoyable weekend. This week we are continuing with our topic of ‘Ourselves’. Our book this week is called ‘Owl babies’. Your child will be taking part in the following activities (Activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests):
Personal, Social and Emotional
- Being encouraged to demonstrate friendly behaviour, initiating conversations and forming good relationships with peers and familiar adults.
- Responding to simple instructions and following rules.
- Learning to put away activities once they have finished playing with them.
- Aware of own feelings, and knows that some actions and words can hurt others' feelings.
Communication and Language
- Listening to the story of ‘Owl babies’ and discussing our feelings. What makes us happy and sad? Discussing other alternatives words for happy and sad. Answering ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions.
- Retelling a simple past event in the correct order (e.g. I went down the slide and hurt my finger.)
- Communicating freely about own our homes and community.
Physical Development
- Moulding owls out of clay
- Hall session: The children will continue to go out in small groups to work with our Sports Coach, Mr Portway. Please bring in PE kits as soon as possible.
- The children will continue to use the outside area –please send in wellies and a waterproof.
- Practising holding our pencils with the correct pencil grip and using it with good control.
- Copying some letters, e.g. letters from their name.
Literacy
- We will be continuing our daily phonics sessions, learning set 1 letters, focusing on Fred talk e.g. c-a-t = cat.
- We will be sending home a daily practise sheet for you to complete with your child.
- The children have been issued with a reading book and reading record. Please encourage your child to talk about the pictures and make up their own stories. Every time you listen to your child read, please make a comment in their reading record- this may even be a bedtime story, it does not have to be their school reading book. Please ensure your child has their reading book in school on their reading day.
- Listening to the story, ‘Owl Babies’ and recalling events.
Mathematics
- Continuing Ten Town – our number formation scheme. Learning to form numbers.
- Developing an understanding of positional language, such as; across, beside, next to, below, above, under, on top, over, in, on etc…
- Using some number names and number language spontaneously.
Understanding of the World
- On Tuesday ‘Owl wise’ is visiting us. The children will be learning all about owls and finding out lots of new facts.
- Showing an interest in the lives of people who are familiar to us.
- Knows some of the things that make us unique, and talking about some of the similarities and differences in relation to our friends and families.
Expressive Arts and Design
- Making Owl collages.
- Engages in imaginative role-play based on own first-hand experiences.
Messages
- The children may bring in something related to our stories for Show and Tell on Friday.
- Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.
- We regularly update our EYFS blog. Please like our Broadford Primary Facebook page every time you see an EYFS blog. Feel free to make a comment on the children’s experiences.
