Topic:
'The world Around us (including
Cultural and fantasy Stories)'.
This
week we will be basing our learning around the story of ‘Where the Wild Things
Are.’ On Tuesday the author
and poet Louise Yates will be visiting to share her books with the children. This week the children will be also
completing their Team Marathon Sponsored event.
During the week your child will be
taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development
(activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests;
however, the skills remain the same):
Personal, Social and Emotional
·
Children talk about how they and
others show feelings, talk about their own and others' behaviour, and its
consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable.
·
We will share story of ‘Where the Wild
things are?’ and discuss Max’s actions in the story. How was he behaving? How
did his behaviour affect the story? Relate to the children’s own experience of
good behaviour and bad behaviour and its consequences.
Communication and Language
·
The children will be shown how to use
the new small world area outside to develop their own narratives and
explanations by connecting ideas or event.
·
Children answer 'how' and 'why'
questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events.
·
Children will be encouraged to express
themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners' needs.
·
In small groups the children will be
asked to work as a group to discuss the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ In
the story Max had a dream. The children will be asked to share their experience
of dreams. In the story Max goes away from home they will be asked to share
their own experiences of being away from home.. How did it feel? What did they
take?
Physical Development
- Children
show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.
- They
move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space.
- Fine
manipulative skills set up daily to improve children’s pencil control.
Literacy
- We will
be continuing with our daily Read, Write Inc. groups.
- Please
keep practising ‘Fred talking’ the words we send home and encouraging your
child to you’re their ‘Fred Fingers’ to help them spell the words.
- The
children need to be bringing in their reading books daily. We praise the
children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system
in place
- Writing
our names encouraging correct pencil grip.
- Children will be making their own
‘passport’ for our role play travel agents and attempting
to write short sentences in a meaningful context.
Mathematics
- Compare
quantities and objects and to solve problems.
- Creating their
own pictogtams in order to compare
quantities and solve problems.
- Securing
recognition of numbers 1-20 and ordering correctly.
- Ensuring
children understand more and less and are able to find one more/less from
a given number.
Understanding of the World
- Children
use pictures in the role play travel agents to talk about the features of
their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one
another.
- They make observations of animals and
plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.
Expressive Arts and Design
-
Enjoying
our daily dance warm up to the ‘5 a day’ fitness programme.
- Children
will be encouraged to represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings
through role play and stories using the new small world areas inside and
outside the classroom.
- The
children will experiment with using different collaging techniques
independently.
Learning Challenge
Each half term we will be setting our
pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important
for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be
extended at home.
The learning challenge will include
either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your
child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The
children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their
teacher or class.
Poem/Song to learn:
Teddy bear, Teddy bear
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn around!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the ground!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Jump up high!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the sky!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Bend down low!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch you toes!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn out the light!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Say good night!
Turn around!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the ground!

make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case
they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have
to be school uniform.
- We
regularly update our EYFS blog. Please like our Broadford Primary Facebook
page every time you see an EYFS blog. Feel free to make a comment on the
children’s experiences.
- If
you wish to contact a member of the EYFS staff please email them at eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk
- Please
remember that your child should not return to school for 48 hours from the
last time they had sickness or diarrhoea.
- Please
remember that children still need to bring a coat into school as sometimes
the weather can still turn chilly. For those sunny days remember to send
in a sun hat and apply sun protector before they come to school.
