Space Themed Challenge
You could create a space rocket! You can add numbers or letters to support learning. If Adam is less keen to write lower case he could trace over your letter maybe? Or start with putting letters you have written in to order for the rocket.
This might be a next project to occupy Adam. I've attached some images below he could try to draw or he could colour in. He could add it to his space board or create a new one!
You could make a flying saucer if you have any plastic bowls or even cardboard work. He could make a playdough alien to steer his ship around the world. A great song to learn with this is 10 little men in a flying saucer. It will support with speaking and counting. I've attached a link.
Adam needs encouragment in Nursery to try new textures however he enjoyed an activity similar to this. You add a little paint to your shaving foam and paint on to the cardboard to create the earth.
Here is a space themed story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/melody-rocket-trip
You don't need to try all of these, you could show the pictures and see what he would like to try. There are also bits he could join in with on the general Nursery blog. I think the maths he would enjoy especially the IT game. The science experient related to germs he would probably enjoy watching and playing with too.
Have a lovely week, stay in touch.
Reception Home Learning Week 7
Good morning Reception!
It has been lovely speaking to you all on the phone and fantastic to hear how well you are all getting on. We hope you had a lovely weekend and ready for another week of learning!
As you will have heard, the government has talked about the planned reopening of schools on June 1st for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, if it is safe to do so. It is your choice as to whether you send your child back to school at this particular time. Rest assured there will be no fines if you choose to keep your child at home and we will continue to provide support with home learning.
Please see Mr McLucas’ blog for more information and follow the link below to fill out the form attached to it. It is important that we know whether your child will attend, so that we can plan for reopening. Please also pass this message on to other families who may not have seen the blog.
Videos needed!
We would like to make a little video of the children and staff in Reception, to put a smile on to everyone's face. It will also be a nice way to see all our friends we are missing! This video will be shared on Facebook and the school blog once finished, so only send in a video if you are happy for it to be shared.
If you want to take part you need to:
This week’s Maths is based around the book Superworm by Julia Donaldson. We have read this story at school recently so the children should be familiar with it, if you want a refresher though watch the below video.

Spellings
This week our spellings are all green words, remember to think about whether there is a ‘special friend’ in the word. Keep practising the other words you might have found tricky so you can use these in your writing.
Practice writing these spelling everyday, ready for the test on Fridays. One of your teachers will read out these spellings in a video for you to have a go at home. You can find the test on the Facebook page or through the blog on the school website. Good luck!

- Email a short video of your child dancing, waving or jumping (no more than 5 seconds) to eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk by Monday 25th May.
- The video should be LANDSCAPE.
- Do not worry about sound or saying anything as we will put a song over the top of it.
- It is important that videos are landscape so no one loses their head when videos are edited together.
- You can send it by Evidence Me if this is easier than email.
- Please spread the word we would like as many children in this video as possible.
Here’s what we’ve got planned this week…..
Writing
Writing
Keep a diary for a week or from Monday to Friday. You could fold some paper into a mini book. Each day, discuss what you have done and let your child choose something they want to write about. Remember to plan the sentence first out loud and then let them have a go at writing it down. You might want to draw a picture to illustrate each day.
Don’t forget your finger spaces between words and remember to use the sound mat to help with letter formation.

Maths
- Choose your favourite number. See if you can represent it in different ways (tally marks, ten frame, dots, bricks..…). Can you investigate different addition and subtraction number problems that equal your number? Here is an example, you could draw yours, take photos, make using objects, get creative!
- Here are a selection of number sentences, your challenge is to sort them out into number sentences that are true and false. Can your child prove why? Can they explain how they know? Encourage them to use concrete objects (pasta, lego, buttons) to prove it, and to use their words to explain why. You could write your own problems or use these ones.

- Collect natural objects (stones, daisies, sticks…) whilst on a walk or playing outside. Can you use them to spell your name?
- Here is a fun science experiment to try using… Skittles! https://www.science-sparks.com/skittles-experiment/
- Play higher and lower using a pack of cards. You could explain the value of the picture cards or remove these from the card deck.
- Plant a seed, care for it and watch it grow. Sunflowers, beans and cress all grow relatively quickly, so are good for discussing what is happening and looking at changes. They can also be grown in a pot.

Nursery Home Learning Week 7
Good morning Nursery,
Welcome to Week 5 of the Summer term.
As you will have heard, the government has talked about the planned reopening of schools on June 1st for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, if it is safe to do so. It is your choice as to whether you send your child back to school at this particular time. Next week’s Storytelling Challenge
Please watch the video and share your story ideas.
Can you make your own cardboard lady bird to help you count? You could paint a paper plate red and either gather some small items to be your counters e.g. bottle tops or make some cardboard spots! If you draw a line down the middle you can match your grown ups spots to see how carefully you can count. You could also make some number cards to try and count out that many counters. If you are getting really good your grown up could challenge you to add some more, take some away and work out how many you have left.
Physical Challenge
Fine Motor Challenge
To support children to learn to write and hold their pencils it is really important to develop their finger muscles. Try this fun activity to support this. We would recommend starting with the larger items you can roll like the cellotape roll to give the children a sense of achievement before moving on to the more tricky smaller items.
Celebrations
This week, Christians will be celebrating Ascension Day and Muslims celebrate the end of Ramadan. Both celebrations encourage acts of kindness and the practising of gratitude. You don't have to be Christian or Muslim to do these; what kind thing could you do this week for somebody? Even during these difficult times, what are you thankful for? Please share through EvidenceMe and the Early Years mailbox eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk We look forward to hearing what you think of and what you do.
A card for your Nursery friends
Speaking to the parents and children this week lots of you have been making cards for family members and grandparents. You can use colouring pencils, paint, glitter and any other materials you have available at home. We thought it would be a lovely idea for you to have a go at making cards for your friends in the Nursery. Share your pictures through the EvidenceMe app or through the Early Years mailbox eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk and we will add them to the blog for your friends to see.

Next week’s Storytelling Challenge
Please watch the video and share your story ideas.
You could change parts if your child has a good idea for a solution or problem! Try to follow the structure of Character, Setting, Problem and Solution.
Phonics
Lots of parents have asked about this. Not all children will be ready to sit and learn sounds and this is absolutely fine. If that is the case you should continue to focus on talking skills, joining in with stories, finding words that rhyme, listening to sounds they can hear in the environment e.g. cars, birds, bikes, planes (click here for a more structured to a listening activity). However we do feel it is important to give advise so learning is consistent. We would really recommend using the Ruth Miskin website and videos for support with this. Start from Wednesday as the first sound will be re-introduced then. We would not advise starting to learn Set 2 sounds right now, even if you have learnt lots of Set 1. If you feel your child needs more challenge or support email us at eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk and we can give you personalised advise.

Science
You will need:
A small bowl of water
Ground black pepper
A small bowl of soap
What to do:
Sprinkle pepper into the bowl of water
Explain to your child that the pepper represents germs like viruses that can make us sick
Ask children to place one finger in the ‘germs’ and ask them what happened. They will probably recognize that germs got stuck on them!
Then have them put a clean finger in the soap and swirl it around until it covers the end of their finger
Have them put the soapy finger in the ‘germs’
The ‘germs’ should be repelled by the soap and should quickly move away from your child’s finger
Germs Experiment Using Pepper And Soap
This experiment is a great way to explain to children the importance of washing our hands.

Welcome to Broadford Nursery!
Dear Parent/Carer,
We are delighted that you have chosen Broadford Nursery for your child and we are pleased to
confirm that we can offer your child a place for September 2020. As we have said previously are currently unsure of how long school
closures will last, it is difficult for us to publish details of our usual transition programme.
However, please let us reassure you we are planning ways in which we can prepare your child to
ensure they have the best possible start to school.
To start off with we have some videos and photos for you to share with your children to show them what they can look forward to next year. Please also look at the school website www.broadford.havering.sch.uk and the school Facebook page
which you can find by searching for Broadford Primary School. This will be updated with any new
information related to admissions. We hope you enjoy the video!
Please email eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk if you have any enquiries.

A.H Learning
Good morning Nursery,
Welcome to Week 4 of the Summer term.
We hope you had a nice weekend and enjoyed the sunshine! Thank you for sending your pictures of your picnics at home while wearing red, white and blue, it looks like you all had a lovely time. We really enjoyed seeing all the activities you have been busy with this week, we were very impressedwith all the starry night pictures! We loved all of your stories this week, some great props! We will continue to collate these this week and share a video of all your efforts. Remember to send any more video stories on Evidence Me or via email to eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk.
Adam could create his own planets to access painting this week. That way you can bring up images on his Ipad and he can colour or paint. You could do one a day for a little while if you wanted. If you have some cardboard packaging or a cereal box opened up he could paint it black to stick them on or you could hand them.

Adam could complete this through drawing! He could draw the teddy, draw the setting, draw the problem and solution then you could help talk him through it.
Phonics
If moving on to the initial sounds (we call these set 1) please do so in line with how the school teaches reading. We use phonics and teach children sounds. There is an interactive lesson for the children to join in with on the Ruth Miskin website: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ
For name writing create a name card and let your child practice in a tray. You could fill it with salt, split lentils, a little dry sand or even spices!

Preparing Your Pizza
Can you help prepare a snack this week or help with cutting vegetables for dinner this week? Maybe you could try and make a pizza snack this week for your family! You can make your own version using pitta breads, crumpets, muffins, halving bagels or even naan bread. Children can help spoon tomato passata, grate the cheese and add some toppings.
Number
This week see if you can practice matching your numbers to an amount. Here are some ideas that you could use at home! Remember to keep maths very practical with resources the children can touch and feel at this stage. You can use any resources at home for this. Create some number cards and match that number to it, you can even set challenges and hunt around the house e.g. 2 shiny items. The examples below include cherrios, lego (any blocks) and cut out circles for pretend ice-cream cones.

Shape Challenge
We could see lots of good naming and finding shapes last week! To encourage the children to remember this maybe you could try some of the activites below to consolidate your skills! The example below include drawing a shape outline and filling it with items or placing them around the outside, printing shapes with cardboard tubes and using pringle tubs or other recycling you have to make shape monsters.
Construction
Lots of children in Nursery enjoy building and creating their own models. This week we thought you could see if you can use resources at home to create your own house or castle! You could use blocks, cardboard boxes, lego, duplo... even plastic cups to add to your design! Mrs Chisholms grandson Joshua enjoyed create a magical castle with some construction straws at home.

As always one routine we would really recommend is having a bed time story every day, you can never hear too many stories! You can join in with telling one of our Nursery favourites 'We're going on a Bear Hunt'.
Have a lovely week! Keep Smiling!
To finish off here are some photos of things your teachers have been busy with this weekend; baking, cooking, walking and planting! A big hello from us all!
'Our Super Story Video' by The Nursery Children
Here is a little video to brighten your Monday! Over the past few weeks Nursery children have been busy completing one of our learning challenges; to tell their own story! The story had to include a character, a setting, a problem and a solution. Some children used their teacher's ideas and some children created their own. We think they are all fantastic and are very proud of all the children and the parents that helped.
Reading stories is so important to support children to tell their own stories. Reading will help them to develop new language, begin to use their imagination and learn about characters and plots. It's also a simple way to give a child a little bit of magic in what might be a difficult time for them. Please make sure part of your routine is reading a story. If you are struggling to access books while libraries are closed you can watch Miss Tynan's story on this weeks blog and you could also use Cbeebies. Try and watch it with your child and talk about what happened after.
If you have your own story we haven't seen yet you can comment below or send it to Evidence Me or eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Good morning Reception!
We just wanted to say we miss you all lots and hope to see you soon! Keep smiling and enjoying this time with your families.

Maths
We have received lots of brilliant photos of you all getting stuck into Maths at home. There have been some fantastic creative ideas to keep Maths practical and fun. Pasta is proving a popular resource to help with calculations, but we’ve also seen the use of Lego bricks, paper hands and even PEAS! Keep it up!

Here is another fun phonics game you can easily make at home. Find some household items or toys and write out some labels for them. Can your child read the word and match it to the correct object? Think about the items you choose, you might want to underline special friends that have been recently learnt to remind your child or challenge them to spot the special friend unaided. Have fun!

Spellings
It has been great seeing how hard you have been practising your spellings and how well you have done in the weekly spelling tests. We have included some red words this week (think about the tricky bit) and some high frequency words for you to practice. Remember to keep practising the other words you might have found tricky so you can use these in your writing.
Practice writing these spelling everyday, ready for the test on Fridays. One of your teachers will read out these spellings in a video for you to have a go at home. You can find the test on the Facebook page or through the blog on the school website. Good luck!

Here’s what we’ve got planned this week…..
5-a-day
Every day at school we do 5-a-day to get us moving and ready for the day ahead. We have managed to get a login for you to use at home. These are five minute dance routines that have a fun theme, your child will definitely have a favourite or two. Use as a break between activities, switch it in to replace PE with Joe or cosmic yoga. There are also Time-2-Chill routines if you need a calm moment or two.

Keep it up!
White Rose Maths
This week's Maths is based around the book The Very Busy Spider. Not quite as well known as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but also written by Eric Carle. You can listen to the story here on YouTube.
Take a look at the activities, choose the ones you would like to do and let us know how you get on. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/
- Have a go at practising some subtraction this week, begin with single digit numbers. Remember subtract means take away. Get creative and keep it practical. Here are a few ideas from bowling to play dough!
- Go on a shape hunt around your house. Can you sort the shapes/objects into 2D (flat shapes) and 3D shapes (solid shapes)? Can you remember the names of the 3D shapes? There are some tricky ones!
Writing
What do you want to be when you grow up? Have a conversation with your child, plan some sentences first and let them have a go at writing them independently. You might be able to use one of this week's spellings, ‘want’ in your writing. In the word ‘want’ the ‘a’ is tricky as it makes an ‘o’ sound. You could illustrate your writing with a picture. Remember to use your Fred fingers and sound mat to help.
Phonics
Joining in daily with the speed sound lessons, is one of our top recommendations to add into your daily timetable during lockdown. Remember you can find them on YouTube or Facebook.

If your child has been joining in with the set 2 speed sounds lessons daily, you may have noticed that the lessons are beginning to repeat themselves (and may have an earlier date on them). This is because all of the set 2 sounds have been taught. Please keep going with these videos daily, the children will need to revisit the sounds to embed them. This will allow them to apply them when reading and writing. If you feel your child is very confident with these set two sounds, please drop us an email and we will advise you on whether you should move onto set 3.

Here is another fun phonics game you can easily make at home. Find some household items or toys and write out some labels for them. Can your child read the word and match it to the correct object? Think about the items you choose, you might want to underline special friends that have been recently learnt to remind your child or challenge them to spot the special friend unaided. Have fun!
Other Activities
- Draw a self-portrait of yourself. You could sit in front of a mirror to help you look at your different features. What colour are your eyes and hair? What media and materials will you use?
- Learn to say hello in five different languages.
- Help to make lunch or dinner.
- Play I-spy at home or out on your daily walk. Remember to play using your phonics sounds!
