Nursery Home Learning Week 5

Good morning Nursery,

Welcome to Week 3 of the Summer term. We had lots of photos shared with us last week, some were based on tasks your teachers had suggested and some were clearly your own brilliant ideas! Have a look at the collage below to see all of the wonderful things children were busy with last week.

VE Day EYFS Challenge
Friday is the 75th VE Day, a day where we remember the sacrifice people made during the Second World War, and keep hope alive in our hearts that such loss and sadness will never happen again. Many people have said they will be having a picnic at home, in their gardens or in their living rooms and will be wearing red, white and blue.

To celebrate VE day your challenge is to dress in red, white and blue. You could make some bunting to decorate your house. Why not go on a red, white and blue hunt. How many objects can you find of each colour in your house? Perhaps you could plan a special picnic to enjoy with your household!
To learn more about VE Day with your child you could look at this powerpoint together:

Story Challenge
Thank you for sharing your stories with us last week your teachers really enjoyed looking at all your fantastic work. We have put together your story entries into a video you can watch below:

This week we have a new story challenge for you! Have a look at Miss Ahmed's video to find out more:

You can use Miss Ahmed’s props to help make a story or you can create your own! Just try to make sure it includes a character, setting, problem and solution. To find out more about this we have included a link to help you to support your child to develop their imagination, creativity and problem solving skills https://youtu.be/0aMF9rLyhRU.

Cooking
As Friday is VE day we thought it might be a nice opportunity to bake some scones at home. Click to watch how to make some at home.  If you are finding it difficult to source flour you could try and create some tasty Chocolate rice crispy cakes or cornflake cakes to share instead!

Magnificent Masterpiece
Art allows children to express themselves and develop their understanding of the world around them.
Children gain in confidence as they develop their attention span and ability to focus on the project.
Spend some time looking at the ‘The Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh talking about the things you can see. Can you create your own masterpiece inspired by the night sky? You could use paints, chalk, pastels, collage materials.. So many possibilities!

Maths
Here is a little shape story!

Can you find things to draw around that are circles, triangles etc? You might find a plate, a cup, a saucer etc. They will be all kinds of sizes; larger, smaller and wider and you can compare the size.

Children enjoy printing with shapes. Can you find thins that you do not mind getting paint on them? It could be bricks or cups, plastic toys, lids etc? Put some paint on a tray and then transfer onto a piece of paper. You could make a house, a castle, a boat etc.

Fine Motor
Fine motor activities support children to develop finger muscles ready for writing. Torsten sent us a photo of a great task using some kitchen resources he had to hand. See if you can build your own tower! You can count your peas, spot your shapes and challenge your muscles.

We also had a lovely resource shared by Oscar and his mum called https://hoorayheroes.com/stories/freebies/ where you can be the hero/heroine of your own colouring story! It is emailed free.

Feelings

Nursery children are very young to understand why they need to stay inside which can make it a tricky time for them. If your child is worried or unsettled you might like to share this story with them.

You could also try completing this memory book to look back on in years to come.

Tune in on Mondays and Fridays for 20 minutes of Story magic for children aged under 5 with picturebook read-alongs followed by draw-alongs.

Learning to Read
If you are teaching phonics to your child please use the Read, Write, Inc videos to help you! They are released on the following website every day at 9:30 for the day and are interactive sessions: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ  They will support you to see how the school teaches reading and the children seem to be enjoying them.

Have a great week! We hope you find time to complete some challenges, spend some quality play time together and enjoy VE day! Try and send us a photo of one nice thing you do together this week either to Evidence Me or eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk.
