Reception: What We Are Learning
Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Jack and the Beanstalk.
Here is what we have been up to:The children have been listening to the story, learning about the life cycle of a bean, talking about what they would like to find at the top of a beanstalk and making their own beanstalks in the art area.
The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In literacy we have been writing words about Jack and the Beanstalk. They used their sound knowledge to write words such as Jack, egg, hen, mad and run. We also learnt about red words and spelt the. Remember you can’t fred a red. This means you can not sound out red words. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Watch this video for set 1 sound practise - Set 1 sounds
In Maths this week the children have been focusing on subitising numbers to 5. Subitising is being able to visually see a number of objects instantly without needing to count them out one at a time. We spoke about how numbers can be represented in different ways. We worked hard to count a range of objects.
Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
