On Thursday 8th May, parents are invited to celebrate VE Day with the children. The children are welcome to wear red, white and blue on this day. If your child does mornings, you are invited in at 10:45am and for our full day and afternoon children, you are invited in at 2:30pm.
This week's learning...
The warm weather has seen our garden begin to bloom. The children are currently growing a range of plants and herbs. They have been watering them daily in this hot weather and are excited to see them grow.
Our yummy plants have also attracted some unwanted guests... snails! Although we don't really want them living in our veg patch, the children were thrilled to find them. We decided to build them a new home for the day. We filled a tank with all the things snails would like, including some of our delicious plants. The children loved looking at them for the day, watching them move around and leaving their trail all over the tank. At the end of the day, some of the children took the snail to be released into the big school field.

The children have been mark making this week, designing cards for lots of different occasions. We discussed what we might see on birthday cards and what pictures you might draw on a get well soon card. Activities like this are great to encourage not only mark making, but also communication and conversation. The children naturally begin to share their own experiences about birthday parties that they have been to, family members birthdays, when they felt unwell etc.
After looking at all the mini-beasts in the garden, we decided to turn ourselves into beautiful butterflies! Using chalks, we drew big wings and then the children took turns laying down and posing as butterflies. They loved looking at the photos on the ipad of each other.
The children are taking part in weekly PE lessons, focusing on different skills. This week, the children were learning to pass the ball using the inside of their foot and then stop the ball using the ball of their foot. They loved going into the big school field to do their lesson!
We have been busy building our explorers tunnel this week. The children helped with designing it, while the adults put it together. There are parts with holes in, where the children can pop up from, climb out of or climb in, and there are solid parts, perfect for making hiding dens or walk ways.
