Nursery Newsletter - WC 16/03/26

Eid Mubarak, everyone!

We hope your Eid is full of smiles, giggles, and yummy treats! May your days be filled with fun, happiness, and special moments with family and friends.

We can’t wait to hear all about the Eid celebrations and happy stories when you’re back at nursery!

On the 26th of March, pupils and staff are invited to dress up in something that represents their culture or religion.

Easter Hat Parade – Wednesday 25th April - We would love to see all of your wonderful creations.

This week, we have been focusing on the classic story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have really enjoyed engaging with the story in a variety of ways, especially bringing the characters to life by using different voices—a deep, low voice for Daddy Bear, a gentle, calm voice for Mummy Bear, and a high, squeaky voice for Baby Bear.

They have also shown great enthusiasm when exploring the illustrations, carefully looking at the pictures and talking about what they can see. The children have been encouraged to share their ideas and make predictions about what might happen next, helping to develop their imagination, language skills, and confidence in expressing their thoughts.

The Bear's Porridge Tuff Tray

On our tuff tray, the children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a fun, hands-on activity where they fed stuffed toy bears with porridge oats, linking beautifully to our story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They have spent a long time exploring the oats, using different tools to fill, scoop, and pour, carefully creating their own “perfect” bowls of porridge.

This activity has encouraged lots of imaginative play, as well as supporting the development of fine motor skills and coordination. The children have also been engaged in conversations about what they were doing, describing textures and quantities, and showing great concentration as they experimented with different ways to handle and move the oats.

Balance bikes!

We have been fortunate to receive two new balance bikes, along with helmets for the children to use during their practice. The children have been very excited and eager to have a go, helping to mark out a little track and taking turns riding around it.

They have been developing their balancing, stopping, and turning skills, showing increasing confidence with each attempt. It has been wonderful to see their determination and perseverance as they practise. Impressively, the children have demonstrated excellent turn-taking throughout the activity, showing kindness and consideration by ensuring that everyone who wanted a turn had the opportunity to join in.

Playdough Area - goldi-dough fun!

In the playdough area, the children have had great fun exploring yellow, glittery playdough, linking their creations to our story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They have been busy designing Goldilocks’ hair, using their imagination to shape and style it, as well as making bowls of “yummy” porridge for the bears.

Junk modelling inside and outside!

Thank you for your generous donations of junk modelling materials—these have been greatly appreciated and well used by the children. They have thoroughly enjoyed exploring different ways to paint, build, and create using a variety of resources.

In our outdoor area, the children had lots of fun painting the junk modelling wall, experimenting with different colours and enjoying the sensory experience of feeling a range of textures. Indoors, they have been busy designing and making chairs for the bears, linking their creations to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. There has been a particular focus on creating a new chair for Baby Bear after his was broken, with the children showing great imagination, problem-solving skills, and creativity as they built their designs.

Construction and finger gym areas

In our construction and finger gym areas, the children have been highly engaged in a range of hands-on activities. They have loved designing and building their own tracks for cars, as well as constructing towers of different shapes and sizes, showing creativity and developing their understanding of how things fit and balance together.

In the finger gym area, the children have been strengthening their fine motor skills by using their pincer grip to pick up pieces of pasta with tongs. This activity has supported their hand–eye coordination and control, while also encouraging concentration and perseverance as they carefully grasped and moved each piece.

Making kites!

We were lucky to have plenty of wind this week, which made kite flying a particularly exciting and enjoyable activity. The children had great fun running across the outdoor area with their kites, watching with delight as they lifted and soared through the air.

This activity encouraged lots of physical movement and coordination, as well as a sense of excitement and curiosity about how the wind helped their kites to fly. The children showed great enthusiasm, laughing and cheering as they experimented with running faster or changing direction to keep their kites up in the air.

Thank you,

Nursery Team

Reception Learning - W.C 16.3.26

Year Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Dinosaurs love underpants.

Here is what we have been up to: We have learnt about how Dinosaurs lived in the Prehistoric time. We found out information about different kinds of Dinosaurs including the Apatosaurus, Plesiosaur and Oviraptor and we found Dinosaurs inside eggs!

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In Literacy, we wrote about a Dinosaur that entered our school. We wrote where the Dinosaur was last spotted and what it looked like. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc).

In Maths this week the children have explored building 9 and 10. They represented these numbers in different ways. We also used a part whole model to show how we could make 10 using three different numbers.

Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!

They are always ready to help others and make sure everyone feels included. We are very proud of the caring attitude they bring to our classroom. Well done!

Nursery 12.3.26

Thank you for the junk modelling resources you have sent in so far. The children have been having a wonderful time using them to create their fantastic models.

If possible, we kindly ask that you continue bringing in any clean recycling materials you may have at home, as the children are really enjoying using them during our creative activities. Items such as small boxes, cardboard tubes, cartons and bottle tops are always very useful.

We really appreciate your support in helping us keep our junk modelling area well stocked for the children to explore and create. Thank you!

Shape Sorting Fun in the Maths Area

This week in our maths area, the children enjoyed exploring 2D shapes through a fun sorting and matching activity.

The children looked at different shapes such as circles, squares, and triangles, and worked hard to match and sort them into the correct groups. They enjoyed talking about the shapes they could see and noticing how some shapes were the same and some were different.

It was lovely to see the children concentrating as they carefully chose where each shape belonged. Some children even began spotting shapes around the room and linking them to the ones they were using.

Activities like this help support early mathematical development, as children learn to recognise shapes, notice patterns, and sort objects. The children were also developing their thinking and problem-solving skills while working things out together.

We had lots of fun exploring shapes this week! Maybe you can spot some shapes together at home while out on a walk or around the house.

Building Train Tracks

This week the children had lots of fun in the construction area building train tracks. They worked together to connect the pieces and create different tracks for the trains to travel along.

The children enjoyed figuring out how the pieces fit together and trying different ways to build their tracks. Some made long winding tracks while others created smaller loops for the trains to go around.

It was lovely to see the children using their problem-solving skills as they worked out where each piece should go. They were also developing their fine motor skills while connecting the track pieces and moving the trains along the tracks.

The activity also encouraged communication and teamwork, as the children shared ideas and built their tracks together.

The trains were very busy travelling around the tracks the children created!

Muddy Fun in the Mud Kitchen

This week the children were excited to explore our revamped mud kitchen area outdoors. With the new bark on the ground, the space felt fresh and ready for lots of messy play!

The children had great fun mixing, pouring, and creating their own muddy meals. Using pots, pans, and spoons, they worked together to make all sorts of imaginative creations such as muddy soups, cakes, and special recipes.

It was lovely to see the children using their imagination and creativity as they pretended to cook and serve their meals to their friends and teachers. They were also developing their physical skills while scooping, stirring, and pouring.

The mud kitchen is a wonderful space for children to explore, play together, and enjoy the outdoors while learning through hands-on experiences.

We certainly had lots of muddy fun this week!

Looking After Our New Garden Plants

This week the children helped to look after the new plants in our garden. They were very excited to explore the garden and take part in caring for the plants.

The children helped with watering and looking closely at the leaves and flowers. We talked about how plants need water, sunlight, and care to help them grow strong.

It was lovely to see the children taking turns and being gentle while helping in the garden. They enjoyed talking about what they could see and watching the plants in their new space.

Activities like this help children learn about the natural world while also encouraging responsibility and teamwork. We look forward to watching our garden grow together!

Our Junk is not junk anymore!

This week at nursery the children have been busy getting creative with junk modelling! We provided a variety of recycled materials such as boxes, tubes, cartons, bottle tops and paper to inspire the children to design and build their own creations.

The children had lots of fun exploring the different materials and deciding what they could turn them into. Some children chose to build robots and vehicles, while others created houses, rockets and imaginative models of their own. They used glue, tape, scissors and paint to join pieces together and decorate their models.

Junk modelling is a fantastic activity that encourages children to use their imagination, creativity and problem-solving skills. As they build, the children also develop important fine motor skills and learn how to plan, test and improve their ideas.

It was lovely to see the children working together, sharing materials and talking about what they were making. They were very proud of their finished creations and enjoyed showing them to their friends.
