Nursery 12.3.26

Thank you for the junk modelling resources you have sent in so far. The children have been having a wonderful time using them to create their fantastic models.

If possible, we kindly ask that you continue bringing in any clean recycling materials you may have at home, as the children are really enjoying using them during our creative activities. Items such as small boxes, cardboard tubes, cartons and bottle tops are always very useful.

We really appreciate your support in helping us keep our junk modelling area well stocked for the children to explore and create. Thank you!

Shape Sorting Fun in the Maths Area

This week in our maths area, the children enjoyed exploring 2D shapes through a fun sorting and matching activity.

The children looked at different shapes such as circles, squares, and triangles, and worked hard to match and sort them into the correct groups. They enjoyed talking about the shapes they could see and noticing how some shapes were the same and some were different.

It was lovely to see the children concentrating as they carefully chose where each shape belonged. Some children even began spotting shapes around the room and linking them to the ones they were using.

Activities like this help support early mathematical development, as children learn to recognise shapes, notice patterns, and sort objects. The children were also developing their thinking and problem-solving skills while working things out together.

We had lots of fun exploring shapes this week! Maybe you can spot some shapes together at home while out on a walk or around the house.

Building Train Tracks

This week the children had lots of fun in the construction area building train tracks. They worked together to connect the pieces and create different tracks for the trains to travel along.

The children enjoyed figuring out how the pieces fit together and trying different ways to build their tracks. Some made long winding tracks while others created smaller loops for the trains to go around.

It was lovely to see the children using their problem-solving skills as they worked out where each piece should go. They were also developing their fine motor skills while connecting the track pieces and moving the trains along the tracks.

The activity also encouraged communication and teamwork, as the children shared ideas and built their tracks together.

The trains were very busy travelling around the tracks the children created!

Muddy Fun in the Mud Kitchen

This week the children were excited to explore our revamped mud kitchen area outdoors. With the new bark on the ground, the space felt fresh and ready for lots of messy play!

The children had great fun mixing, pouring, and creating their own muddy meals. Using pots, pans, and spoons, they worked together to make all sorts of imaginative creations such as muddy soups, cakes, and special recipes.

It was lovely to see the children using their imagination and creativity as they pretended to cook and serve their meals to their friends and teachers. They were also developing their physical skills while scooping, stirring, and pouring.

The mud kitchen is a wonderful space for children to explore, play together, and enjoy the outdoors while learning through hands-on experiences.

We certainly had lots of muddy fun this week!

Looking After Our New Garden Plants

This week the children helped to look after the new plants in our garden. They were very excited to explore the garden and take part in caring for the plants.

The children helped with watering and looking closely at the leaves and flowers. We talked about how plants need water, sunlight, and care to help them grow strong.

It was lovely to see the children taking turns and being gentle while helping in the garden. They enjoyed talking about what they could see and watching the plants in their new space.

Activities like this help children learn about the natural world while also encouraging responsibility and teamwork. We look forward to watching our garden grow together!

Our Junk is not junk anymore!

This week at nursery the children have been busy getting creative with junk modelling! We provided a variety of recycled materials such as boxes, tubes, cartons, bottle tops and paper to inspire the children to design and build their own creations.

The children had lots of fun exploring the different materials and deciding what they could turn them into. Some children chose to build robots and vehicles, while others created houses, rockets and imaginative models of their own. They used glue, tape, scissors and paint to join pieces together and decorate their models.

Junk modelling is a fantastic activity that encourages children to use their imagination, creativity and problem-solving skills. As they build, the children also develop important fine motor skills and learn how to plan, test and improve their ideas.

It was lovely to see the children working together, sharing materials and talking about what they were making. They were very proud of their finished creations and enjoyed showing them to their friends.
