We are excited to get creative with junk modelling in Nursery, and we would love your contributions! Children can bring in clean, washed-out items to turn into amazing creations. Here are some ideas:
Empty cereal boxes
Clean yoghurt pots or small tubs
Plastic bottles
Cardboard tubes (kitchen roll, wrapping paper, NO toilet rolls please)
Bottle caps
Cardboard egg boxes
Important: Please make sure all items are washed out and safe for little hands.
We can’t wait to see what the children create – imagination is the only limit!
This week, the children explored paint in exciting new ways. Using pegs, pom poms and cotton buds, they experimented with different textures and patterns while creating their own beautiful bear pictures. The various tools encouraged careful hand movements and helped develop their fine motor skills as they dabbed, stamped and printed with confidence.
In our tuff tray, the children enjoyed imaginative play with dried pasta as part of our pretend cooking activities. They stirred, scooped and poured the pasta into pots and pans, creating wonderful “meals” for their friends. This type of role play supports creativity, communication and early mathematical skills as they explored quantities and shared resources.
To further support the children’s physical development, we have introduced a variety of cooking-related activities to our playdough area that help strengthen their muscles. Rolling, cutting, grinding and kneading all provide excellent opportunities to build both fine and gross motor skills. The children have thoroughly enjoyed these hands-on experiences while developing their coordination and independence.
We have also been busy in our outdoor area, planting new herbs and relocating our mud kitchen outside. The children were excited to help with the planting, learning about how we care for and grow our own plants. Moving the mud kitchen outdoors has inspired even more imaginative play, with children mixing, pouring and creating their own muddy recipes in the fresh air.
We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day! The children enjoyed sharing their favourite stories, dressing up and taking part in themed activities throughout the day. Reading together continues to support their language development, imagination and love of books.
