Nursery Learning 18.5.26

This week in Nursery, we have had a lovely time exploring the story Where the Wild Things Are. The children really enjoyed listening to the story and talking about the different emotions shown by the characters. We focused on understanding “wild” feelings, such as feeling angry, excited, frustrated, or energetic, and compared these to “calm” feelings, when we feel relaxed, happy, peaceful, or ready to listen.

Throughout the week, the children took part in a variety of activities linked to the story, including role play, discussions, movement games, and creative activities. They explored ways to recognise their emotions and talked about strategies that can help them calm their bodies and minds, such as taking deep breaths, sitting quietly, or talking to an adult. It has been wonderful to see the children beginning to express their feelings and develop their understanding of emotions through play and conversation.

We would also like to remind families that it is half term next week. The following Monday, 1st June, is an INSET day, so Nursery will reopen for children on Tuesday 2nd June. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back after half term.

We had a lovely time exploring different brushes and noticing the unique patterns they could make. The children also enjoyed mixing poster paints together to create new colours and experiment with their creativity. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity during the activity.

During lunchtime, our 30-hour children have been enjoying sitting together with their packed lunches and developing their independence skills. They have been doing a wonderful job tidying away their belongings after eating and learning the importance of keeping our environment clean and organised. It has been lovely to see the children chatting happily and building friendships during this time.

In the playdough area, the children have been creating their own islands inspired by Where the Wild Things Are using natural resources such as shells, flowers, and sticks. They have enjoyed exploring different textures and patterns, especially noticing the interesting marks the shells made in the playdough. It has been wonderful to see their imagination and creativity develop through this activity.

One of our tuff trays was linked to the story Where the Wild Things Are, where the children explored boats travelling across the ocean. They had lots of fun investigating the different natural materials, including leaves and feathers, using their senses and imaginative play to bring the story to life.

In our finger gym activity, the children have been carefully threading pipe cleaners through colanders to help develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. They showed great concentration and perseverance while exploring different ways to thread and manipulate the materials.

Crackers and cream cheese have been a very popular snack choice this week. The children have been practising their spreading skills independently, developing their fine motor control and confidence during snack time.

In another tuff tray, the children explored purple bubblegum scented Gelli Baff this week. They thoroughly enjoyed the sensory experience, using their hands to investigate the squishy texture while talking about the colour, smell, and how it changed during play.

We hope the children have a lovely half term next week and look forward to seeing them back on Tuesday 2nd June for our last half term of the year!
