Year Reception: What We Are Learning
This term our topic is Plants and Growth. Our focus book this week was The little red hen.
Here is what we have been up to:
The children made their own delicious bread rolls. They explored how flour is made and investigated how ingredients change during mixing, rolling and baking. The children enjoyed observing the changes in the dough and were excited to taste their freshly baked bread rolls.
The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week.
. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc).
In Literacy, the children used time connectives such as first, then, next and last to sequence and write about their bread-making experience. They recalled each stage of the process, from mixing the ingredients to baking the bread rolls. Using these key words helped them to put events in order and develop their early writing skills.
In Maths this week, the children enjoyed building new shapes using different 2D shapes. They also pulled shapes apart to see which smaller shapes they were made of. This helped them to recognise, name and talk about the properties of different 2D shapes.
Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
