Nursery: Parent and Carer Blog; Health

During this time it can be difficult to know who to speak to about the little things or problems that you as parents and carers face. The aim of these weekly parent and carer blogs is to keep you up to date with additional support and where to find it.

When your child is ill or injured it is very difficult to decide if/when to call your child’s GP, NHS 111, or go the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E). While the government is asking everyone to stay at home, it can be confusing to know what to do.

Here is a poster which outlines when to contact who for different health concerns.

Eating a vegan or vegetarian diet?

Whilst many of us have taken part in ‘veganuary’, eating vegan and vegetarian foods, Havering recognises that it is so important to ensure we continue to get a balanced diet. Here you will find a page about ‘Healthy eating for vegetarians and vegans’.

Where can I find support for specific conditions?

This page on the Havering Family Information Service website provides a directory of the services that support a wide range of specific health needs.

Where can I find and register with local NHS services?

At the bottom of the Havering Family Information Service page you will find an NHS service search finder. All you need to do is enter your postcode, select the service you are looking for and it will provide the search results.

Have a particular interest in Health?

If you are particularly interested in health you may consider training to become a Community Health Champion (Level 2 accredited) or to pursue a career in Health Services.

“I completed the Health Champion training in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the Level 2 accredited course. It was a great way to have discussions about health and learn specific skills to start conversations with those we care for around health. The trainers, Sharon and Debbie, were so lovely and I still receive the latest health updates from them. I would highly recommend the course!” Miss Cumming.
