Many thanks to all the parents who came to watch our Read, Write Inc. sessions. We hope you gained an insight into how we teach phonics. We have read all your comments and are currently looking into how we can provide you with resources to use at home.
This week we will be basing our learning around the story, ‘Little Red Hen’, linking with an autumn theme. (Activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests):
Personal, Social and Emotional
Continue to demonstrate friendly behaviour, initiating conversations and forming good relationships with peers and familiar adults.
Responding to simple instructions and following rules.
Communication and Language
Sharing the story of ‘Little Red Hen’ – children to act out the story with props. To ask and answer ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions.
Physical
Moulding animals out of dough.
Hall session: The children will continue to go out in small groups to work with our Sports Coach, Mr Clark. Please bring in PE kits as soon as possible.
Literacy
Children to sequence a set of photographs to show how to make bread the day after they have made bread. To write captions to go with pictures.
We will be continuing our daily phonics sessions, learning set 1 letters – sh,r,j,v and focussing on Fred talk e.g. c-a-t = cat.
Maths
Shape games - To begin to use mathematical names for ‘solid’ 3D shapes and ‘flat’ 2D shapes, and mathematical terms to describe shapes.
Conker challenge! Hunt for conkers in the sandpit, and fill the numbered pots with the correct number of conkers. Extend up to 20.
Understanding of the World
Children to work in small groups as a team to make bread, feeling the texture, noting changes and talking about how the bread rises. We have of course checked all of the dietary forms that have been returned. However please advise us if there is any dietary information we need to be aware of.
Expressive Arts and Design
Making autumn shakers using rice, corn and beans.
Children to learn the little red hen rap to perform.
Making puppets.
Messages:
•The children may bring in something related to our stories for Show and Tell on Friday.
•Each child now has a home/school book. This is a book to write their wow moments in and any important messages. If you make a comment in the book, please place it in the tray provided so that we respond to your comment straight away.
•Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.
•We regularly update our EYFS blog. Please like our Broadford Primary Facebook page every time you see an EYFS blog. Feel free to make a comment on the children’s experiences.
Thank you for your continued support.
