The children had a great first week back. Our book of the week is ‘Elmer.’ Your child will be taking part in the following activities. (Activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests):
On Monday and Tuesday our focus will be Remembrance Day and on Tuesday we have a company coming to school to perform the pantomime Beauty and the Beast.
Personal, Social and Emotional
- Children are aware of the boundaries and behavioural expectations.
- To develop an understanding that their own actions can affect others.
Communication and Language
- Sharing the story ‘Elmer’ and providing materials for the children to develop their own narratives.
- Suggests how the story might end.
- Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall.
- Describes main story settings, events and principal characters.
- Uses intonation, rhythm and phrasing to make the meaning clear to others.
Physical Development
- Developing fine motor skills through tracing activities, using tweezers and manipulating dough.
- The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Portway. All children will now need a full PE kit in school as they will be getting changed for each session.
Literacy
- We will be continuing with our daily Read, Write Inc. groups.
- Children will be practising their name writing to ensure correct formation and pencil grip.
- Please ensure your child’s reading book is in school on their reading day.
Mathematics
- Practising number formation and understanding of number through playing bingo.
- Exploring the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
Understanding of the World
- Using the paint programme on the computer to create their own Elmer’s
- Exploring reflective materials in the water tray
- Exploring natural materials to make their own bonfires.
Expressive Arts and Design
- Create simple representations of events, people and objects.
- Chooses particular colours to use for a purpose.
- Explores what happens when they mix colours.
- Explores colour and how colours can be changed.
- Engages in imaginative role-play based on own first-hand experiences.
Each half term we will setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.
The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.

Messages
- The children may bring in something related to our stories for Show and Tell on Friday.
- Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.
