Reception Weekly Newsletter 03.11.14

Term: Autumn 2
Date: 3.11.14
We hope you all had an enjoyable break. This half term our topic is ‘Colours and Patterns’. We will also be focussing on celebrations. Our book of the week is ‘Whatever Next’. Your child will be taking part in the following activities. (Activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests):
 
Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Circle time: Keeping safe during ‘Bonfire Night’. We will be reading a firework story and discussing firework safety
 Communication and Language
  • Sharing the story ‘Whatever Next’ and providing materials for props, to observer children’s own outcomes.
  • Listening to children read their reading books.
  • Questioning why things happen and gives explanation
  • Asks, who, what, when, how
  • Story telling workshop
Physical Development
  • Exploring the outdoor equipment.
  • Developing fine motor skills through tracing activities, using tweezers and manipulating dough.
  • The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Portway. All children will now need a full PE kit in school
Literacy
  • Writing our names using rainbow writing, encouraging correct pencil grip.
  • Daily RWI phonics sessions
  • Mark making with chalks on the playground
  • Story telling workshop
Mathematics
  • Firework songs – 10 little fireworks standing in a line, one zoomed off and then there were 9…
  • Reinforcing formation and recognition of numbers 1 to10.
  • Sequencing numbers in the correct order.
Understanding of the World
  • Collecting natural materials to create a pretend bonfire in the small world tray.
  • Using the paint programme on the computer to create firework pictures.
  • Exploring reflective materials in the water tray
  • Small world play – space scene
Expressive Arts and Design
  • Engages in imaginative role-play based on own first-hand experiences.
  • Firework pictures using paints and straws - children to blow through the straws to create firework effect.
  • Story telling workshop
Messages
  • The children may bring in something related to our stories for Show and Tell on Friday.
  • Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.
  • We regularly update our EYFS blog. Please like our Broadford Primary Facebook page every time you see an EYFS blog. Feel free to make a comment on the children’s experiences.

Stay and play session:
Come and see us in action! On Monday 17th November we are inviting parents to come and watch us teach Read, Write, Inc. See how we teach sounds and get some tips for activities which you can do with your children to support our scheme.
