Term: Autumn 1                                     Date: 14.9.15

The children have had a great first week in reception exploring their new classes and the outdoor area, making new friends and getting to know their new teachers. We have been focusing on helping the children to learn each other's names, learn the new routines and expectations of reception and modelling how to use the new resources. Everyone has settled in well and we are looking forward to having the whole of Apple and Aspen class in together next week.

This week we are continuing to use our carpet sessions to develop the children's ability to work well as part of a team; we will be building dens, working together to build towers and encouraging the children to share resources and ideas with each other. We have also began to introduce our number formation scheme Ten Town.

Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Being encouraged to demonstrate friendly behaviour, initiating conversations and forming good relationships with peers and familiar adults.
  • Responding to simple instructions e.g. to get or put away an object.
  • Beginning to accept the needs of others, take turns and share resources, sometimes with support from others.

Communication and language
  • Supporting the children to use the past, present and future tense correctly.
  • Encouraging children to question why things happen and give explanations.

Physical Development

  • Drawing lines and circles using gross motor movements using a selection of resources in the malleable area using gloop.
  • Holding a pencil between thumb and two fingers moving away from a fist grip.
  • Supporting children to catch and throw a large ball.

Literacy
  • The children have been issued today with a reading book and reading record. Please encourage your child to talk about the pictures and make up their own stories. Every time you listen to your child read, please make a comment in their reading record- this may even be a bedtime story. It does not have to always be their school reading book.

Mathematics
  • Recognise some numerals of personal significance.
  • We will be introducing ten town our number formation scheme.

Understanding of the World
  • We will be supporting the children to select and use simple maths games.

Expressive Arts and Design

  • Creates simple representations of events, people and objects.
  • Modelling how to use the new art area and resources.

Messages

  • If your child attends morning sessions they will be staying for lunch on Tuesday and Thursday this week and will be collected at 12.15pm. If your child attends the afternoon sessions they will need to be in school at the earlier time of 12pm to stay for their lunch. There will be lots of adults supporting the children during the lunch time period so we can make sure it is a positive experience.

  • There is a whole school inset day on Monday 21st September so the children will start full time on Tuesday the 22nd.

  • Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.

  • If you wish to contact a member of the EYFS staff please email them at eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk

Thank you for your support.
