Reception Newsletter 01.02.16

The children enjoyed making delicious smoothies last week. They carefully cut the fruit and were willing to taste unfamiliar fruits when discussing what to put in their smoothies. Photos are available on the blog.

This week we are looking at the children's own 'Super' abilities linking with our 4 R's (Reciprocity, Resourcefulness, Resilience and Reflectiveness.) Connecting to this we will be looking at examples of real life 'Superheroes' such as firemen.

Your child will be taking part in the following activities and routines (Although the skills will remain the same, the activities may differ depending on the children’s interests):

Personal, Social and Emotional:
Developing an understanding that good practices with regard to exercise, eating, sleeping and hygiene can contribute to good health.
Discussing the importance of team work.
Practicing resilience - The children will be encouraged to keep trying when tasks may be hard and beginning to overcome difficulties themselves.

Communication and Language:
Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.
Encouraging children to ask ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions in their play.

Physical Development:
Hall session: The children will continue to go out in small groups to work with our Sports Coach, Mr. Portway
Talk about the ways that the children can keep their bodies fit and healthy while at school, so that they can be as fit as a superhero.
Taking part in our daily ‘5-a-day’ fitness routines.

Literacy:
Read, Write, Inc. sessions will continue.
We will be writing captions about the 'Superheroes' we have found out about using our phonic knowledge

Mathematics:
Beginning to use every day language relating to money.
The children will have lots of practical experience with coins; sorting coins of different value, using them in role play shopping etc.

Understanding of the World:
Shows interest in different occupations and ways of life - talking about Firemen, Policemen, Nurses.

Expressive Arts and Design:
The children have been pretending to make cakes in the play-dough area. We have added piping bags, candles and other resources to enhance their play.
