Nursery Newsletter 11.3.19

Dear Parent/Carer,
Thank you for all of your efforts to help the children celebrate World Book Day last week. The costumes were fantastic and we had a lovely day celebrating the magic of stories! Of course stories are important all year round and we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the Nursery book cart. Parents can borrow story books to share with children as they wish, these can be recorded in the small red book and returned when you are finished.

Lots of children were keen to tell us about their own pancake day experiences last week. This week our focus story is 'Rhinos don't eat pancakes.' The children will have to opportunity to make pancakes in small group and select from healthy fruit toppings.

This week we are learning the Nursery rhymes 'A sailor went to sea' and 'Down in the jungle'

Maths
Our number of the week is number 5. We will be learning the Ten Town song for the number and the children will have lots of opportunities to develop number recognition and counting skills in all areas of our learning environment. The children are learning to show their fingers to represent a number quickly, they are also learning to quickly recognise spots on a dice and use this to play games.

Communication and Language
This week we are introducing syllables to the children. These are the large chunks you can break words into which are sometimes referred to as the 'beats' of spoken language. The word cat has one syllable the word purple has two (pur and ple). We will be playing lots of games to support the children to understand this.

Malleable
We have added cupcakes, gems and sticks to enhance children's baking play.

Creative
We are exploring printing this week with a selection of inks and different shaped objects to print with.

Water
The children have hand pumps, soap and sponges to explore different ways of moving water.

Snack
We are making and eating our own healthy pancakes this week. The children will make the batter in small groups and choose from a selection of fruit toppings.
