Potion making in Reception!

Reception have enjoyed reading Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson this week. At the end of the story the witch makes a potion in her cauldron to create a truly magnificent broom. This afternoon the children got to make their own potions and they were truly magnificent too! The children followed the instructions adding bicarbonate of soda, glitter and the final ingredient vinegar. Before they added the vinegar the children discussed what they thought might happen, making predictions. They were encouraged to speak in full sentences. Then it was time to add the final ingredient and watch the magic happen!

“It’s hot like lava.” Kemar
“A dragon might come out.” Hugo
“It exploded!” Elkah
