Reception’s shop is open!

The children returned to school after the weekend to find that the role play area had been changed into a shop. There was much excitement over the opening of this new food outlet and the lines for the tills have been pretty long!

Role play gives children the opportunity to use their imagination as well as draw upon their real life experiences and to act out these narratives within their play. The shopkeeper role has proved popular and the children have managed turn taking by using a sand time to support them. Role play also helps to develop children's language and communication skills and adults have been modelling how to play and interact within this environment. There has also been lots of Maths going on, recognising of numbers on prices labels, language related to money and even some adding up of items!

Perhaps you could visit a local shop and let your child help with the shopping and pay for something!

"That'll be forty pounds please." Teo
"Two and three, that's 1,2,3,4,5! Five pence!" Eason
"Come again soon." Chidera
