Pop! Bang! Whizz!

Pop! Bang! Wizz! The children have been discussing and exploring fireworks over the last few weeks. We have discussed when people use fireworks to celebrate, such as Diwali, Bonfire Night and New Year. Evie even explained that they have fireworks at Disneyland. The children talked about what their families celebrate at home.

We have been busy making lots of firework pictures in our art areas. Of course we needed lots of glitter to make these pictures.

"I need more paint." Emmy
" It's going round and round." Poppy

We also talked about the sounds fireworks make when the go off and learnt what an onomatopoeia was. The children used their phonics knowledge to hear the initial sounds in words and the sound mats to help them write these sounds. We were also able to segment some of the simpler words like pop, fizz and zap!

"P-p-pirate. Down his plait and up and over his face." Hugo
"I'm going to write boom!" Evie
