Nursery Home Learning Week 9

Good Morning Nursery,

Thank you for continuing to share all of your activities by email and evidence me. We have extended the deadline to send in a dancing video to Saturday 13th June as we would like to include as many children as possible so if you haven't already please send us a short 5 second clip of your child dancing and waving (try and make sure this is landscape). You can send this to eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk or post this directly to Evidence Me. Thank you for your patience regarding Nursery starting to re-open. We will have further information to share with you on Monday that will explain the school plans in more detail.

Tales Toolkit Challenge
Story telling is a great way to develop language skills. Have a look at this week's story challenge. You can always adapt these to your child's interests, we are encouraging them to think of stories with a character, a setting, a problem and a solution.

Understanding of the World
Lots of children have been enjoying  getting outside whether in gardens, in forests or local walks there are lots of ways you can enrich this experience. See if you can find out some facts about birds this week:

Have a look at some common garden birds below and see if you can spot any of these on walks or through your windows this week!

To encourage the birds to visit you could make a bird feeder. Here are two examples that are quite easy to make.

Instructions
1.Coat in peanut butter
2.Roll in birdseed
3.Attach string to hang
4. Hang in tree

Instructions
  1. Thread your cheerios onto some string or a pipe cleaner.
  2. Tie the end
  3. Attach string to hand
  4. Hang on tree
Craft
Catch your good dreams and let your bad ones escape with a special dream catcher.
Here are two examples of dream catchers: one using sticks you can gather when outside and one using paper plates.
You can decorate these with wool, feathers, stickers, even paint and hang them above your bed!

Maths
Parisa shared a fantastic duplo maths activity last week. Maths is a lot much more fun when combined with building. Write down a number and let children put them in order. Next, they try to create towers with the corresponding total number of bricks.

Torsten shared his numbers model. You can model writing the number shapes with your child and create the number shapes.

Marble Art

You will need:
Shaving cream, food coloring or acrylic paint, white card or paper, toothpicks, bowl, spatula and ruler.

Instructions:
  1. Spray shaving cream into a bowl.
  2. Level out shaving cream with spatula.
  3. Squirt food coloring or acrylic paint onto the surface of shaving cream.
  4. Swirl designs into your shaving cream.
  5. Lay paper down and pat it gently so all of the paper is covered on underside with shaving cream/paint.
  6. Gently pull off paper and lay down with shaving cream side up.
  7. Scrape off shaving cream with a ruler and let dry.
Social Skills
This week Victoria looked at the book All About Feelings and Victoria’s mum recommended the book as it is very informative and useful for children to understand their feelings and how to identify and address them. If you would like to have a look at the areas discussed in the book you can watch here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFVBgVKgj-8

Storytime

Owl babies is a lovely story related to birds with lots of repeated phrases the children can join in with.

Many Thanks,
The Nursery Team
