Maths

This week, the children have built on the earlier work we carried out on matching to find and make pairs. They have begun to understand that a pair is two.  They have been encouraged to arrange small quantities into pairs and notice that sometimes some quantities will have an odd one left over with no partner.

Key Vocabulary: Pair, matching, quantity, same

Zofia:  'Two sheep socks the same, two spotty socks the same'

Tiger: ' I found the same, I found the same AGAIN!'

Lucas- " Its blue"
Taylor " There is 2"

Kai: “These match and these match”
Onyeka: “Both of them have pink star”

How to support your child this week at home.

Ask your children to match or pair up socks or cutlery from the drawer. Could they match Lego pieces or bricks.

Play a game of snap, can they match the same suit or number on the playing cards?

Literacy

In literacy this week, we have read the story Goldilocks and the three bears.  The children have been working super hard to use their 'Fred Fingers' to sound out and spell their words and sentences. We have been focusing on using capitals letters at the start of our sentences, remembering to use finger spaces between each word and to include a full stop at the end of the sentence.

Key Vocabulary: Goldilocks, three bears, Baby Bear, Mummy Bear, porridge, bed, chair, sleep, hot.

Joshua" The bear is small"
Abbas- "The food was hot"

Chinese New Year

This week in Reception we have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. In China each year is linked to an animal and this it is the year of the Tiger.  It is traditional for children to receive red envelopes with money inside. To mark the end of the Chinese New Year there is a lantern festival. The children had lots of fun making their Chinese  lanterns.

Kylie: 'I like my lantern'

Iustin: ' Look at my Chinese dragon'

Harry- "ROAAAAR"
Bernice- "It is the year of the tiger"

Spencer: “ Look I made a dragon mask”

Isabelle: “Miss I love making lanterns”

The children are making good progress in Read, Write, Inc. We would like to thank you for all your continued support at home with your child's reading. Please continue to read daily with them and bring their reading folders into school on their reading day.  If you are unsure of their reading day, please check with their class teacher.

Read, Write, Inc assessments will be carried out towards the end of next week by class teachers.
