This week we have been learning about 3D shapes, we have looked at where we find 3D shapes in everyday life. We have explored the properties of each 3D shape such as how many faces and vertices they may have.
We have also learnt a new song which helps us to remember the 3D shapes.
Our activity this week was to find 3D shapes and stick them in the right column.
We had some great conversations about how different each 3D shape was.
Great work Reception!
Joshua- "Its a cuboid look"
Mateo- "A football is a sphere"
Jimmy: "The party hat is a cone"
Jessica- “The party hat is shaped like a cone”
Onyeka- “This one is a cuboid”
Key Vocabulary: faces, vertices, cube, cuboid, sphere, triangular prism.

This week we continued with the story Juniper Jupiter by Lizzy Stewart. Which tells the story of Juniper Jupiter who is a real-life superhero, there is a drawback to being an incredible superhero and that it often be a lonely job. She decides to find herself a sidekick and stages tryouts to find her perfect partner in crime. Turns out that her helper was with her all along....
This week, the children created posters in which the children described their very own superpowers. We have some super duper creative children here in Reception.
Elsie- "I can fly"
Fatima-"I am super speedy"
Emily: "I'm good at dancing"
Ameera: " I can turn things into ice"
This week has been National Science week and to celebrate this we have participated in a range of activities. The fitting theme for what has been a turbulent time for all of us was ‘Growth’ this links with multiple areas across science, technology, engineering and maths.
We have been lucky enough to have Year 4 buddies come to visit us and we used this time to measure our hands and feet. We compared sizes between them and us.
We made corn flour slime, mixed paint in with water, made potions, created junk model inventions and designed boats then created them. It was awesome when our boats stayed afloat. We also did experiments one where we watched 'raisins dance'. We put raisins in a cup and noticed nothing happened then we added raisins to lemonade and that's when the magic happened, they bopped away in the lemonade.
Finally, the BIG SHOW! We added Mentos to coke and stood back and watched the EXPLOSION! POW!
Our experiment was filmed by our amazing digital leader, Archie in year 5.
Livai: "I think it will change colour"
Danni-Ella: "That tickled" (when Summer drew around her foot)
We enjoyed completing the 'daily mile' with our Year 4 Buddies!
Great fun and great exercise!
Alfie: " Oh Wow, it's changing colour"
Danni-Ella: " This is fun, mixing the colours"
Alder Class having fun with their Year 4 buddies!
Sophia: "Ooh this is slimy"
Ayra: "This is fun"
